Yes, if you look around. Some charge a lot more than others. Figure in extra injections too for the dogs.

Are you going to be working here or living off savings/income from elsewhere?

hi IT lad,
we moved to Javea two months ago from the north west of england. Before we made the move we went through the same feelings and emotions, but as it was what we always wanted to do we pressed on, and up to yet can say that it is the best move that we ever made(yes yes i know its only early days ). With regards to your costings most appear ok except your food and eating out -over 1100 euros a month -youll look like jabba/sumo in no time ! We know of a good vet in Javea and if you want details pm me.

Thanks debandsie, I will PM you for details... Are you renting, or have you bought? My Louise's parents go to Javea every year and love it there... I’ve watched a few West Ham games in the Calypso bar (I think that’s the name) on the front while I have been out there… drinking large Malabo’s and orange… :D

It looks like we have gone overboard on the food and drinks then, want to get fitter while out there, and not turn into jabba…

Did you know anyone out there before you moved? Have you made friends easily?

Do you miss anything from UK?

cheers

Rotor – sorry to be a dumb dumb, but I know nothing of putting our money offsure… does it pay monthly Interest, what rates do you get, is it safe??

cheers[/QUOTE]

Offshore can pay higher interest than UK high street, there are "off shore" banks in Gibraltar & Andorra including UK high street names, with the sum your talking of it worth a visit in person and speaking to them, It may even pay to be come an Andorran resident, I think you have to lodge 18K£ with the goverment there but there is huge tax benifits for some people,

Hi Lad,

We were in a very similar position to you 7 months ago and came over to Moraira in December.

Regarding your savings you'll need a UK address to register with the bank as all the internet accounts I opened in readiness for the move said I had to close them if I was to become non resident.

The Nationwide (flex account) are extremely good for running a current account where you can use your card over here get pretty much the interbank rate on transfers and without charges. Even if you have regular transfers set up with a currency broker it's worth having for back up.

Other options include, as previously mentioned, offshore and also the local banks here which are offering reasonable deals on sterling deposits. I would also keep a keen eye on the xchg rate as at some point you will probably want to buy, my own opinion is that the euro will weaken in the coming months.

Go to the revenue website and download form P85 to notify them you have left the UK, you will then be eligible for a tax rebate.

€1200 a month for a 3 bed villa in portet sounds about right, but there is always the possibility that the landlord will grant you a 6 month lease for the out of season months and then will want you out for the summer when they can pull €1200 a week easily. Worth making sure where you stand on that point.

You'll find that second hand LHD cars are cheaper in the UK too. If you buy one and own it for 6 months prior to registration in Spain there is no import duty to pay and matriculation costs should be about €500 (if your car has the certificate of conformity with it).

I was nervous about the whole move thing too, still am, but I'm so glad we did it. Don't get too hung up on the planning stages because invariably things will turn out completely different than expected.
Also, when we moved out we got a holiday let first so we could have a proper look around at long term lets before we comitted ourselves to a lease. We ended up in an apartment in the middle of town. Really handy but you need to be a sound sleeper.

If I think of anything else I'll PM you, I'm tired as I've just got in from the bull-running. This town is fantastic.

Good luck with everything,

Ste.

That won't be much use to you if you're living here, it's for holidaymakers. If you have no free healthcare entitlement via E106 you need private health cover, which I believe you said in a previous post you were going to have anyway.

Hi Splatt,

Cheers for the info and the time taken for your post, very handy to know,… It’s a bugger that I can’t hold my savings over here in the UK...Will have to rethink that one… I will check out the options you gave me on the banks and do some research….

We were going to buy a car over in Spain (less paperwork), but I have heard it’s a lot more expensive for a second hand one than over here… We will only be needing a small run around like a Punto or equivalent with air con…

We were going to get a holiday let before we committed to a long term rental and it did cross my mind that we will have trouble in the summer months… :(

Lots more to think about now, head spinning a little… need to write another list to collate all the info I have been given and start things in motion… I wish we were coming over sooner, less time to worry about everytning…

Thanks again
