Ex pats in Valencia

Hi there,

is anyone living near or around Valencia..? Currently living in a small town outside of the city, and feeling pretty isolated as no one speaks English.

Looking to meet people to converse with.... find I spend most of my time either on my own or sitting in silence as I cannot speak Spanish yet :((

There are a few around near there. No need to feel isolated or lonely, most on here are nice and there are always people out there.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Why not try a search, top right hand bit of the title bar, and see who is on Valencia related threads.

Hi iocara and welcome to the forum.

My husband and I live in Jalon which is between Valencia and Alicante and I'm guessing that is a bit far for you. There are also a few here near Javea and Denia which is closer. I'm fairly sure you will make some friends/acquaintances soon.

How long have you been in Spain? Do you work here or just on a long holiday? Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?

G :)

There surely must be groups of ex-pats that meet up in Valencia itself.

Do you have any interests that would help you to find some companionship? I think it would help people on here if you gave a few details about yourself, such as age, sex and interests. It is not that we are nosey (we are really) but it would help with responses.

We also live in a town where no-one speaks English and our Spanish is very limited but find that the conversations that we have on BE helps. So maybe you need to be prolific on here, it will help with the loneliness and make you feel less isolated.

So come on let us all get to know you a little.

Hi OK,

I was Project Manager for the NHS in Scotland up until 2 months ago, and when the project was completed successfully, I decided it might be time to start a new life abroad. Really not picking up the language at all

Anyway I live in Rafelbunyol, a metropolis of activity !!!!!!

I am currently taking kite surfing lessons, used to be a diver but got cerebral decompression last year which ended that hobby :(((.

Have 3 month old Maltese Terrier called Saturninio (Jock to his mates).

I love cooking and basically talking mince to my mates....The one thing I am missing the most as no one here speaks English and Valencia is 35 mins away and to be honest sitting in "English" bars on my own trying to talk to people is something I would never feel comfortable doing, so getting out is a bit of a trek

Really need some good conversation the type that you don't have to keep repeating until it looses the humour....!!!!!!

Apart from that have the best tan of my life - not much sun in Glasgow!! :)

Hi again iocara. Thanks for giving us a few details about yourself. Interesting name by the way ;)

Kite surfing sounds like alot of fun and definitely a very interesting hobby.

I think you will find many here to chat with (online at the very least) and maybe some friendships will blossom and turn into realtime meet-ups.

I was also thinking that it may be a good idea to have a Costa Blanca North meet at some point. Anybody from CBN interested?

Martha

How did you choose where you are living? What is the size of the community and is it very rural and in the mountains? You mentioned loving cooking, there is a cooking thread on here that may interest you - just go in and do a search and you may find loads to interest you.

Does your town have loads of fiesta's? Our neighbours ran our bell at 9 o'clock to ask us to join them for pizza but we had already eaten so they told us that we are expected to join them for coffee.

The language is difficult but if you make sure that you dedicate a little of each day to studying it you will find that you will be able to communicate with the people in your town.
