I see there are adverts on Sky telling people to drive 5 miles less a week to help the environment. When you read the links below you will laugh your rear off and we are probably the idiots paying for them.

One of my gripes with the British Government is how it preaches how green it is in Europe, while in reality we ship all our trash to China and then ship good back and the amount of pollution the government keeps telling us it preventing is at the end of the day just getting pumped out into the air outside of British waters... well I was reading that these ships that move the goods and trash as well as everything else around the oceans actually run on 'dirty' fuel which pumps out up to 4.5% sulphur into the air. The dirty fuel which they refer to as 'bunker' fuel is 'basically liquid tar left over from fuel refining', the tankers a lot of the time sit off the UK ports with their engines turning over 'not at full power granted' but they sit there running waiting for rises in the fluctuation of petrol prices so they can offload at prime moments and chug out massive amounts of sulphur into the air at the same time. They estimated that * every 16 * of these super ships 'every day' output the same amount of cancer causing 'sulphur' pollution as all the cars in the world... I wonder what quango idiot is in their over paid job who's responsibility it is for the ads telling us to drive 5 miles less a week!

Maybe the EU and various governments 'including the British' should get off peoples back and get onto the greater problem that these ships are causing.

Up here in Galicia there are two holiday lets that proclaim to be either Green or Bio friendly. But neither say what they mean by these statements on their websites.
The other day on Dutch TV there was a programme about the car industry and how it has been affected by the crisis. Every one from dealer to a breakers yard was interviewed. In the Dutch system for getting money back for your old car it has to have a roadworthiness test lasting for over 3 months. So cars are scrapped with new parts on them. Now that is green. Parts of the scrapped cars are being exported to the likes of Egypt, that is green because they seem to make "new " cars from the dismantled parts!
Cars from the year 2000 are being scrapped because they are not worth anything. Now that is green.
If you want to be green then the best way is not to live!

My second comment I was actually being sarcastic.

There is something in the pipeline concern the UK govt and Manufactures of certain products found in the home that have made the UK become a throw away society rather than repair and keep.

It won`t be long before the ASDA and Tesco style of business will be reeled in, hopefully.

I remember the conclusions that we reached as part of our research group in the 1990's. Had anyone stolen them, they would have concluded that the Earth was flat!

...but not CO2. That's the trouble with statistics. Since removing sulphur from fuel, cars don't really cause sulphur pollution. It's still not a great statistic in environmental terms, but it is an irrelevant comparison nonetheless - unless you're sponsoring a newspaper that is!

Hell, if I left the car at home today and ran for the bus, I'd generate almost as much CO2 as the car journey. But hey, that's the environmental cost of breathing I suppose.

What you do is purchase products that damage far more of your bank account than you realise.

Not directly, but indirectly they cost you and I a fortune.

There is a major US company that produces goods found in most homes around the world, the product has a huge failure rate and high, very high replacement component costs, which results in huge recycling costs and disposal problems.

It has been monitored now for some time and many within the industry followed as the corp has produced huge profits at the expense of consumers and the planet, its about to be stopped.
