Have you tried using a DNS solution instead of a VPN? This is what I use with the ATV and it's way easier to set up than a VPN. You don't even need to install any app.

VPN tunnels your entire internet traffic and can slow things down. A DNS based solution just spoofs your location but your connection remains direct and the fastest possible with no tunneling, etc.

There are a handful of DNS providers all of which are good from the look of things. From the ATV side you just need to go into your internet connection settings and select the manual DNS option. It's that simple. No app to install on the ATV, no nothing.

In fact once you've downloaded all UK television apps you can also download the main Australian ones as they carry LOADS of UK TV content and work in a similar way. Whereas with VPN you would have to change connections depending on whether you're accessing UK or AU apps, with a good DNS service they do all of that for you so you don't have to change a thing...
