The most eco way to heat water is to leave the boiler on permanently.
It takes way less power to keep the tank at a set level than to only turn it on a couple of hours before you need it. |

Wouldn't setting a timer make sense, especially if you need hot water at regular times each day? I have mine set so that the boiler is on from each morning (ahead of getting up for a morning shower) and then stays on during the day right up until I take my evening shower (I have it set to turn off right before so that it doesn't heat up any more water once I start showering).

Re: Energy Upgrading for Shower Problems
Just need to sort our solar panel out now ! The plumber says the solar panel needs sorting first before he can put on a cut off tap to switch between solar and the electric boiler. We had someone come to look at the solar panel this morning but he said (he told the plumber who speaks Spanish!), that he was just there to look at it! I have no idea how the two (solar and electric boiler) should be connected to work together and both men seem to think it is something to do with each other's trade !🙄 Then they start rabbiting on about technical things to me which make no sense at all, so when we will get it done is anyone's guess. I have now referred it back to our Gestora who arranged with the previous owner to send the solar man down this morning, to see what needs to be done to get it back working.

Re: Energy Upgrading for Shower Problems
Maybe hire someone who speaks and understands Spanish to be with you during plumbers, construction workers, electricians, etc. when they visit..

I think I mentioned before, it doesn't have a timer on it !
Also, since the boiler is simply plugged into the nearest wall socket, a standard socket timer device should do. |

The electric ones I've seen don't seem to have timers, but where I live there is a timer switch in the fuse board just for the boiler unit.

Check the power rating of the timer some are quite low for lamps etc others have up to 3600 watts which you would need for something like a plug in water heater.

Re: Energy Upgrading for Shower Problems
Well I have one which is rated"max load 3,120w", I thought boilers were only 1.5Kw anyway 🤔

Yes boilers vary some are 1.2 kw some 2Kw etc. Your timer is capable of high load some aren't . Just mentioned it for safety . |
Re: Energy Upgrading for Shower Problems
I have used a 3,600 W timer on our boiler for years without any issues.

you also need to check amperage of the timer for 1.5 KW they recommend 13 amp the one i use exceeds that and is 16 amps. Its all to do with amount of electricity draw that a boiler uses as high electric power. If the timer is only say capable of 6 amps you would have an issue
