The end of legal loopholes: EU introduces cross-border fine system!

Currently the DGT tolerances on mobile cameras are 7kph up to 90kph and then 7%..For Pegasus helicopters its 5kph and 5%. For fixed radars its 3 kph and 3%. Yes, its different in Catalunia. If you are testing the limits your speedo will always over-read - typically 3% but it could be more. It's worth checking it on your GPS.

I'm not sure about that and I stand to be corrected but I never heard of a speed camera that has no tolerance at all. The camera itself has to have a tolerance for a start even if it's only a rounded figure up to 1km/h.

If the speed is less than 100km/h, the DGT traffic authority indicates that, in the case of mobile radars, these will not be activated until the speed exceeds the 7km/h limit. So, if you drive at 50km/h, the fine will be applied at 58km/h, if you drive at 60km/h, the radar will be triggered at 68km/h

There's mobile radars and fixed cameras generally and if this applies to the tolerance allowed for mobile radars then I think there is a difference for static speed cameras. Nevertheless there is a tolerance. Also, does the DGT regulate this countrywide or can each province adjust it to their liking as mentioned for Catalunya?

All part of the EU's target of zero (!!) road deaths

This reminds me—we have a local non-resident British (old) guy who brings his car here, has a few drinks, and drives. He claims not to be worried as Spanish police can't take his UK licence. I fully appreciate that the above article relates to the EU and thus excludes the UK, but I think he is mistaken. Does anybody care to comment?

I think only Catalonia and the Basque Country manage their own traffic.
By the way, the new 2025 margins for DGT are:
- Fixed cameras: 3km/h if < 100km/h, otherwise 3%
- Mobile cameras: 5km/h if < 100km/h, otherwise 5%
- "Old" cameras: 7km/h if < 100km/h, otherwise 7%
