:) Sorry, I am not trying to pick a fight or anything but I find it incredible. I do believe you both but ...:)

If you are a resident then the Guardia (based on your NIE number) can check online your status with regard to your license and insurance and ITV so it is no longer necessary to carry all your documentation.

That said, I would not rely on the fact that someone has told your local Guardia patrol the new rules!

I thought it was only the ins policy that is on the data base now and you must still have your ITV sticker on the screen and your logbook and licence with you ?

ITV data has been on the database for some time - how else could they send out reminders?

Licences clearly are also on the database. Insurance details were the last item to go on it.

As I understand it, under the recent changes to the driving rules, the Guardia no longer need to ask for documentation as they all now have roadside access to the data.

Personally I wouldn't bank on it though!

Well the only thing I have read about it is that you no longer need to carry the receipt for the insurance as they can now check it from their cars.

The smoking ban has had an effect on the pub trade, I know a good friend of mine who owns a small local put lost a good chunk of the regulars who were smokers.

That said I believe pubs are pricing themselves out of the market place, put simply they are no longer good value. Lets assume the wife and I go out on a Friday night

Taxi to and from the pub £12

Ten drinks each @ £70

Indian chuck away £15 - £20

So, £100 for a night down the pub and an indifferent meal:( For the same money we can have friends round to our house and I can cook a wonderful meal and offer some decent wine.

The misses runs an Acute Mental Health unit, they have a state of the art breatherliser and it can come as a shock for new staff when they try out the machine in the morning just for fun and find they are still over the limit after 6-8 sleep.

Lets take the guess work out of drink driving and implement a zero tolerance policy. I'm a general nurse and have seen the consequences of drink drivers and it pees me off. For those of you who are against a total ban of drinking and driving come and work in an A&E unit for a while; you may change your tune.

It would appear that you don't find this rule acceptable either.

While the Pot is merrily calling the Kettle, can I point out that 'comments' first started in your post of 16 July, leaving nobody in any doubt, as to who you consider: 'selfish'
Clearly, with regards to what you deem acceptable for the Forum, very much depends on whether YOU are making the remarks, or anybody else !
(Fortunately, the Moderators appear to take a similar view.)

As a new Forum member, I made an Original Post (if anyone would care to re-read it), which I thought was fair and well balanced, yet certainly did NOT advocate anything other than a SINGLE drink, yet still allowed anyone of a zero tolerance persuasion, the freedom to continue their present practice.
Something, which I may point out, they would deny me !

To my dismay, instead of a 'Welcome to the Forum', type thing you would get anywhere else, I find my post, seized on, deliberately(?) misconstrued, and buried under a tackle of American Football proportions, by the blanket-ban lobby, who have taken time off from polishing their halos, as alchohol never touches their lips, or sufficiently affluent, to be able to afford taxis everywhere !

Finally may I add how apt your avatar is ! (or is that against the rules ?) :p

Cheers

It is now good picking on the "halo polishers" as they have been called. No matter how much we disagree the law will always be the law, and will always have the last word.
I like a good drink, like most on here, so does my wife and most of our friends.
I am sure that in the case of zero tolerance, one of you could only drink non -alcohlic drinks on the night when it is your turn to drive, or stay in and entertain, walk or get a taxi. It is not impossible to to "tweak a little".
It is not worth the hassle to get the wrong side of the law in Spain. There is also the fact that driving under the influence can seriously ruin your own life, not to mention the lives of others.

I would have less problem with any 'zero tolerance" policy if they also institute it for texting, cell phone talkng, GPS setting, map reading, lip stick application, McDonalds hamburger eating, screaming at the kids in the back seat, music listening at 110 db, etc (and I know Spain does actually prohibit and enforce several of these).

Had a local respected member of the community over to our house for a meal one evening with his wife. He lives about a mile away and drove to ours. In the early hours of the morning they stood up to leave after plenty of beer and spirits. I volunteered to drive them home or they could stay over as we had a spare room (no taxis here at 3 in the morning). However, he was adamant that this was not a problem since he was on first name terms with all the police and their families and I could not persuade them to change their minds.
