Electricity bills for no consumption??

hello all,
simple question which I´m sure someone will know the answer to!
We completed the puchase of our property on Mar 23rd last. I notice that IBER deducted 122 euros from my accout a few days later and also on a monthly basis up till now a total of 355 euros have been deducted for electricity. Since I have hardly been there ( 5 weeks in total since March) this figure looks very high!! Am I missing something here like a standard charge or something else? I cannot have consumed that amount surely??
thanks for advice....

There will also be an underpayment charge for the period October 2011 - March 2012. This will be collected up until December this year. I hate this but it has been approved by the Government! If you can get it back from the previous owners then it's probably worth it.

If you have changed the contract into your name, then there will also be an initial charge for doing that.

Take a look at the bill (online is probably best) and it will all become clear.

[When you say Iber, do you mean Iberdrola? or Iberswitch? or Iber something else?]

They will also be 'estimating' the bill, they will assume an average usage for a property that size, and assuming that someone is living there and using electricity.

Iberdrola is the name on the debits from my account.

the estimation could be based on the previous owner's useage and they have assumed yours will be the same.

ours was Nil because it was a new property and they had no basis on which to estimate.

how come you have only just noticed the payments ? ?

You are correct, they MAY be estimating or it may be 'sin consumo' which is different.

Jalonboy - why not simply LOOK at a bill?

I have not seen any bill at all or meter reading

You can register on line - get a user name and password - then you can see your bills on line. Also you can ask for online rather than paper bills. They email you each time a new bill is ready. Also you can give them an actual reading (if you can get one). If they have been estimating (which the bills will show you), they will make an adjustment.

I was able to register online with just my address and my NIE number - it really is quite simple.

Iberdrola will also print everything in English if you wish.

With Endesa, their website is full of errors. It only works with certain versions of Internet Explorer. If you're using anything else, you can't read your bills (although if you go online, they won't send you a paper factura, and it will be legally binding, whether you can read the bills or not). If you're using a MAC, forget it.

I'd think a company that profits to the tune of €5Bil per year could get a professional website developer. But apparently they have the president's nephew or some other kid doing it.

Re: Electricity bills for no consumption??

I use Endessa online have done for past 4 years, I never have a problem with the site. I don,t use Internet Explorer or windows, I use Firefox on Ubuntu which is a Linux system, works fine.
However having just checked my bills they have gone from in the summer being 16 Euros per month to 27 Euros Sept Oct and the last one 80 Euros! If you look at this on the graph of charges it stands out like dogs do da,s. I know the reason for initial rise was the increase in electricity cost and IBA. I was over in Nov but didn't use anything excessive. I had this once before about 3 years ago at same time of year and only paid standing charge for a long time untill it evened out. I have noticed that the bill of 27 euros was real and the one now is estimated. So it looks like instead of looking at longer period they have estimated on the dearer bill. I will monitor it next month and see what happens. One other thing I have noticed with them you can update your own readings online but if it is lower than their estimate the system will not accept it!

Our Macs using Safari or any other web browser does not work.

Which version of Firefox? I am using Firefox 17.0.1 on Windows XP and it doesn't work on Endesa's website. Neither does Chrome or Safari for Windows. Internet Explorer 8 seems to work. Afraid to upgrade to 9.

In fact we bought the PC cheap just to be able to use the Endesa website.

??

With Iberdrola you have to specifically ask for on-line billing. Have you complained?
