#1
Hi can anybody recommend a good retailer/supplier where I might be able to buy a the good quality Dualit toasters and retro fridges by Gorenje (similar to SMEG but better quality?)
Strange request I know but I am giving these items I already have to my Son and would like to buy them again in Spain.
Moving to Hondon CB later this year.
Having 5 days visit at the end of this month so any info on suppliers would be great.

Don`t buy Gorenje, there Slovakian rubbish.
I scrapped 5 last week for seized compressors, Frigidaire are also crap, there made buy Gorenje.
Retro is harder to find in Spain unless you go up market or find German/Dutch?English kitchen suppliers.
Many German M/C such as Bosch/Siemens are built in Spain, as Bosch bought the Balay Brand (Spains Hotpoint) several years ago.
If you want a Bosch product buy the Balay brand, there Washing machines are Balay, but so are Bosch, people in the UK are buy Bosch unaware there made either in Spain using Balay tech or in Poland.
Bosch has severn factories in Spain, there Fridges in the UK are Balay and made in Pamplona, there expensive hobs are made in Santander by Balay.
Bosch products are usually 40% more expensive than Balay, and no different ecept the name on the panel and the shape of the panel, all internal workings are the same.
You wont find double ovens in Europe either, there only made in the UK as only Brits like them, so manufacturers will only sell products dependant on consumer taste, so finding retro may be difficult until Spanish like retro.
I know up market suppliers in the Costa Del Sol area if your goin there.
I`ve looked on El Corte Ingles site as they tend to be the largest stocker of appliances in Spain and they don`t sell anything retro.
There are many European kitchen companies and fitters, Norweign ones are very pretty, but expensive, as are the Dutch, Italian and German.

Hi Lee8
thanks for that, very useful.
I own a Smeg cream fridge at the moment and whilst I love the look, the quality is really rubbish! The little freezer at the top drips water and all the plastic interior breaks. I saw gorenje on the net and thought it looked OK, but will look forsomething else now I think.
I thought about buying here and taking over but would it be OK as regards wiring to a new plug etc.? Just with it being a more expensive item I just going to buy over there.
There is a good selection of retro style here.

Power in Spain is the same, more or less, except when lighting storm, then you`ll need to run away, preferable underground.

don`t be tempted to run a three pin converter, there a bit dodge for long term power supply.
never buy an extension cable from the chinese shops in Spain, well well well dangerous.

If your moving goods to Spain you should be OK moving a fridge, as long as the guys don`t break it, if you do, try too unpack keeping the original packaging and run for a few days just to ensure it works first in the UK before goin.
You`d be supprised how many don`t, then plug in that new TV and bang if was rogered before leaving the UK.
If you do buy in UK, make sure there it is a known brand in Spain, they may not cover the UK guarantee but at least they`ll be able to repair it.
There are many guys trying to repair Hoovers/Hotpoints in Spain with cable ties, glue and luck and still charging UK prices for the pleasure.

If you can buy Dualit in the Uk, we bought ours about 35 years ago when they were made in Peckham, in that time it's had about 5 new elements, you can buy direct but they only ship to a Uk address. We have just bought the combie version for my son (makes toasted sarnies) A Dualit lasts forever.

Air Con, too many too choose, but don`t buy cheap, as the output will be low, found out the size of the room and get some advice before you choose.
If you get it wrong it`ll be no different than if you paid a Romanian to stand in the corner with a fan.

Satellites i don`t know, but when you get to Malaga, get the free english paper called the Sur, it has hundreds of brits installing Sat`s, they quote around 400 euros for an installation getting all brit channels, i`ve never bought one, i got Spanish sat, so i can`t give you any advice, but the same rules as the UK, not every smiling sat guy is legitimate.
