To get back to the original question, I think if may depend on which El Corte Inglés you visited. There were 2 in Alicante which I loved (I am a John Lewis fan too). My nearest is now Granada and it is not quite the same as a large portion is taken up by their Hipercor supermarket (not to be knocked though). The clothes in that part are like going into, say, a Tescos or similar so much cheaper than the items upstairs. The Granada one also does not have such a big kitchen goods selection or even the car items department but I still go there when I can.
