We even had a gin bar (one which sells nothing else!) open up in our town last year. I thought it wouldn't last five minutes, but it's still trading. It only opens in the evenings, so must make enough to keep going just opening those hours.

Bit before my time PL, but good to see that your memory is holding up well.
Maybe I'm confusing Casablanca with African Queen or something of the sort. No doubt RM can recall it better than me.

TBH have never tried gin, have no idea what it is like, so must add it to the list of things to do
however, have been looking at the alcohol in Alcampo and there seems to be quite a selection of different brands there, as there would appear to be of whiskey and rum.
tried a Spanish rum and never ever again

serving crap product does nothing for the economy, irrespective of the crisis

I think the spanish rum is an aquired taste, same as their brandy. OH likes the burnt taste but I prefer French . My tipple is Absolut but not a big spirit drinker. Red wine for me

I remember watching it and NOT thinking it was Hepburn. Is that what you meant?

I was first served it with Nordic mist in a Paradore, instant love

I now have to make regular visits to Spain, Muckydohnuts to buy my stock.
But Larios is much cheaper here £5.50 / ltr.
