easyjet check-in
This has probably been asked before but....
I just booked flights Spain-UK with EJ. The website tells me I can ONLY check-in online, there is no longer the option to check-in at the airport. It's the first time I've seen this and wondered if it's normal now or if I'm misunderstanding something. I know checking-in online is easy but I'm a neurotic traveller and anything unexpected sends me into a spin. Thanks |

Thanks This is correct, all you do is check in online and you will be sent a boarding pass which you just print off and take to the airport with you. |
Re: easyjet check-in
Thanks for confirming, stuboy.
So now no check-Ãn queues, just bag drop-off queues..... |
Re: easyjet check-in
This bag drop off malarkey makes me laugh, no such thing! You take your bags to them, they check your passport then check you boarding pass, weigh the bags and put tape on them.
There is no difference to a normal check in except you have printed the ticket for them at home! |

Thanks If you only have hand luggage, then you go straight through to security & then to the appropriate gate. That's where they scan your barcode on the printed boarding pass. One caution: I made the mistake of bringing a plastic bag full of goodies that I couldn't get in my hand luggage, thinking "great, no check on bags as there used to be at check-in". But at the gate prior to boarding, they said that passengers were strictly allowed only 1 bag, so I had to attempt to stuff the rest into the hand luggage. Best thing is to buy a small duty free item & fill it up with those 'extras' you bought from home. |
Re: easyjet check-in
Don't forget also if you are going for a long stay you can only print off boarding pass 30 days earlier than flight which can sometimes pose a problem.
|
Re: easyjet check-in
Also if travelling alone, you are more or less forced to pay for a seat in advance. If you do not do this, you will likely end up (like me) getting allocated a middle seat and if (like me) the flight is full then you can't move to a more favourable isle or window.
Don't know how it works if 2 people book together and do not pay for seats? Do they just get placed any old where? |

Don't know how it works if 2 people book together and do not pay for seats? Do they just get placed any old where? started seat pre allocation. We have always been given two adjacent seats one a window and the next one. Twice very close to the rear steps. This can be a problem when the hostesses stuff the overhead locker with their bucket sized handbags and green bin bags. We have always had a pleasant flight companion in the isle seat so no big deal. |
Re: easyjet check-in
I travel on my own and so far have always had either aisle or window seat allocated never been put in middle seat so far. I never pay to choose a seat or for Speedy Boarding which is still going, why when they allocate seats?

Re: easyjet check-in
What happens if for any reason you can't print out your boarding pass?
For some unknown reason I can't print mine, I can click on the link but it won't print...it does however show on their system that I've printed it out. I had a huge argument about it with the nasty woman on the check-in desk the last time I came home through Liverpool. |
Re: easyjet check-in
I too am flying (first time) Hamburg-Luton. Booked, paid, checked-in all online!
Now comes the bit with size of hand luggage. My little trolley is 50cm but 2cm for the wheels, I know this is then too long but does it cost 30 € or so if it does have to go in the luggage hold? Has this happened to anybody?:( |

Has this happened to anybody?:( Up to 56 x 40 x 20 can go in the cabin however it's up to EasyJet staff (at what point in check-in I'm not sure) because only those of 50 x 40 x 20 are GUARANTEED to go in the cabin. If it has to go in the hold and is within the first, larger, size range, it goes in free. http://www.easyjet.com/en/planning/baggage |
Re: easyjet check-in
Well, I will give it a try and see how it goes. Thanks for the info

Re: easyjet check-in
Thanks all for the comments.
I did check in online once before (accidentally when it asked me for passport details) so I'm sure I can manage it again. If I remember rightly they email you a copy of the boarding card so you can print it at a later date? I usually travel alone so don't worry about seats. But here's a question. Now that you can book your seat online, is there less of a scramble at the boarding gate? |

Ref the scramble.... there's still the scramble, but if you have a seat booked the only thing you need to consider is space for your hand luggage in the overhead lockers. So you still might want to be early in the queue for that. |

First, I'm not sure about whether they email you the boarding pass because we simply decide when we're ready to print and go ahead and do it (Ryanair won't let you before 15 days pre-flight but I don't know ref EZY) ..... but you can either print directly from the screen when you open it from the relevant part of your 'manage my bookings' OR save as a pdf for printing later.

If they board passengers by row numbers, as a lot of airlines do, then it doesn't really help to be early in the queue - if you are in the final batch of seat rows to board, a lot of the space in the overhead lockers tends to have already been filled up by other passengers.
|
Re: easyjet check-in
Easyjet don't board by seat rows as Fiona says it is Speedy Boarding, those requiring assistance or with young children then the rest. I don't myself think the rush is as bad as it used to be as everyone has an allocated seat but of course there is still a bit of a surge. They seem to be quite keen on cramming in the baggage into overhead lockers however my case fits the old standard size rather than the new smaller one that is guaranteed to go in overhead locker, however so far not had any problems getting mine in or had to put it in the hold. Easyjet you can print of boarding card 30 days prior to flight, very simple once you have entered your id details and if lost prior to flight you can go back into site and re print.

I've never been boarded by row numbers by EZY or RYR, it's just (Priority Boarding/disabled etc notwithstanding) 1st queue first served.

I know that's how they always did it before everyone got a seat allocated, but I wondered if they might change it now. I normally fly with Monarch and they always board passengers in batches according to seat rows.

Re: easyjet check-in
Not sure about other airlines but easyjet have now come out with an app for smart phones or tablets whereby you can download direct to phone or tablet your boarding pass which can be used no need to print off. Which may be useful given availability of free wifi most areas.

Regarding the size of cabin luggage, my husband's was a fraction bigger because of the wheels and Mrs Jobsworth said she would let him through This time! Is the same with all budget airlines that you can only book in online if you pay to choose a seat? |
Re: easyjet check-in
Not so you can check in on line , if you have not paid for a specific seat you will be allocated one at no cost.
|
Re: easyjet check-in
Agree not the case easyjet now allocate a seat but it is not certain that if you are a couple say that you will be sat together, to be certain you can pay for that. However even before this when seats were not allocated you could still book in online.
As for jobsworths if they allowed your husband on against the rules how were they a jobsworth?? they do state the size allowed full dimensions including wheels! someone has to ensure flight rules are applied hardly being a jobsworth just a job for me. I will add I had a daughter that worked in the airline industry long unsociable hours and tolerate abusive people who through no fault of hers failed to comply with the conditions of flying . |
Re: easyjet check-in
Where ever I've been on holiday I have so far managed to access an internet shop of some description and printed off my boarding pass.
As for seating at least we are allocated a random seat in advance, even if we don't pay for one (Ryanair, all genuflect:D) However I noticed that at Valencia airport a few days ago, 80+% of passengers were queing up for about one hour twenty minutes and sweating buckets whilst tutt-tutting to one another! Surely they cannot all be bussiness high flyers, holding diplomatic boxes or on missions of mercy? So I sat there in comfort and watches them and was one of the last to enter the plane and there was my seat. A few minutes at the other end to collect a case is no big deal. |
Re: easyjet check-in
The Ryanair charm offensive appears to be working. I flew Stansted to Valencia last week Despite being a full flight there was no great rush to get on the plane, the staff were helpful and the baggage restrictions were much less stringent.
I suspect the true test will be the return leg from Valencia.:fingerscrossed: |

The staff said mine was fine but measured my husband's, and the handle on top made it a fraction higher than mine,She said, in a school marm voice" I 'll let you on this time" Meanwhile hand luggage which was obviously bigger than regulation passed through unchallenged. So, yes, I do feel she was a Jobsworth, or perhaps pedantic is a better word. |

Re: easyjet check-in
I just can't see how if your husbands case was over size no matter how marginal and she let it go as hold luggage she was being either a jobsworth or pedantic. Maybe if yours was the only oversize one not allowed on, as you mention allowing clearly oversize ones on as well. Having been on the position myself of having a job which meant confronting the public with what they deemed to be trivial matters I have been called far worse, as I am sure has the school marm person that let your husband take his case on board.
