easyjet check-in

easyjet check-in
This has probably been asked before but....
I just booked flights Spain-UK with EJ. The website tells me I can ONLY check-in online, there is no longer the option to check-in at the airport. It's the first time I've seen this and wondered if it's normal now or if I'm misunderstanding something.
I know checking-in online is easy but I'm a neurotic traveller and anything unexpected sends me into a spin.
Thanks

This is correct, all you do is check in online and you will be sent a boarding pass which you just print off and take to the airport with you.

This bag drop off malarkey makes me laugh, no such thing! You take your bags to them, they check your passport then check you boarding pass, weigh the bags and put tape on them.
There is no difference to a normal check in except you have printed the ticket for them at home!

If you only have hand luggage, then you go straight through to security & then to the appropriate gate. That's where they scan your barcode on the printed boarding pass.
One caution: I made the mistake of bringing a plastic bag full of goodies that I couldn't get in my hand luggage, thinking "great, no check on bags as there used to be at check-in". But at the gate prior to boarding, they said that passengers were strictly allowed only 1 bag, so I had to attempt to stuff the rest into the hand luggage. Best thing is to buy a small duty free item & fill it up with those 'extras' you bought from home.

Don't forget also if you are going for a long stay you can only print off boarding pass 30 days earlier than flight which can sometimes pose a problem.

Also if travelling alone, you are more or less forced to pay for a seat in advance. If you do not do this, you will likely end up (like me) getting allocated a middle seat and if (like me) the flight is full then you can't move to a more favourable isle or window.
Don't know how it works if 2 people book together and do not pay for seats? Do they just get placed any old where?

started seat pre allocation. We have always been given two adjacent seats one a window and the next one. Twice very close to the rear steps. This can be a problem when the hostesses stuff the overhead locker with their bucket sized handbags and green bin bags. We have always had a pleasant flight companion in the isle seat so no big deal.

I travel on my own and so far have always had either aisle or window seat allocated never been put in middle seat so far. I never pay to choose a seat or for Speedy Boarding which is still going, why when they allocate seats?

What happens if for any reason you can't print out your boarding pass?
For some unknown reason I can't print mine, I can click on the link but it won't print...it does however show on their system that I've printed it out.
I had a huge argument about it with the nasty woman on the check-in desk the last time I came home through Liverpool.

I too am flying (first time) Hamburg-Luton. Booked, paid, checked-in all online!
Now comes the bit with size of hand luggage. My little trolley is 50cm but 2cm for the wheels, I know this is then too long but does it cost 30 € or so if it does have to go in the luggage hold? Has this happened to anybody?

Up to 56 x 40 x 20 can go in the cabin however it's up to EasyJet staff (at what point in check-in I'm not sure) because only those of 50 x 40 x 20 are GUARANTEED to go in the cabin. If it has to go in the hold and is within the first, larger, size range, it goes in free.

Thanks all for the comments.
I did check in online once before (accidentally when it asked me for passport details) so I'm sure I can manage it again. If I remember rightly they email you a copy of the boarding card so you can print it at a later date?
I usually travel alone so don't worry about seats. But here's a question. Now that you can book your seat online, is there less of a scramble at the boarding gate?
