May I suggest if you do that again you tell us so we can decide whether to 'waste' our time trying to help you unnecessarily. Sorry .... have you become a moderator over night? You are referring to a long time poster here who has been very helpful over the many years she has been here ....... have a bit of thought!! |

Lynnxa, Once again I apologise for not being able to answer your question but I did say,I was trying to address your question
I did not say I was giving you an authoritative answer and I tried not to give you that impression. For a complete, legal answer, I suggest you need to go to a professional in that area and pay their consultation fee. PS I see where my typos may have confused you, This is how it should have read:- As for your hypothetical question about UK workers spending 2 or 4 days a weeks in Spain: If it's 4 days they would spend 208 days here and thus be tax resident, if 3 days then 156 here thus not tax resident, except, I believe, the country in which their permanent home is located, comes into the decision in 'unusual cases.' nice edit btw;) |

I have no wish to become a moderator, but I should appreciative his/her/their comment on whether being impolite is acceptable behaviour and within the forum's guidelines. |

Lynnax, Thought interesting - clear as mud - but interesting meant you had not understood, apparently I was wrong, yet again, but if it did not I cannot imagine what it meant. !
as I said though - surely some of it will be useful to some people |

Please don't blame me for the web site, although I have been through it before and believe I understood what it meant, but at that time I had a need to know.
can we leave it now? |

Re: driving license help needed
Blimey! Am sorry I asked!
I came here to ask for help not to be judged! My OH is a policeman, none of his collegues knew the correct information (by correct I mean 150% correct no room for any error!!!!!), so we spoke to the Spanish police and Spanish insurance companies on the Monday (I asked the question on the forum on the weekend)...... plus he is not a regular policeman, so doesn't need to know minor things like traffic laws! Far from it! We need him to be able to drive my Spanish car whilst his is in the garage, so we needed to be very sure that he was ok to drive it! Plus we are looking to buy new and as I cannot drive a Gib car, we are thinking of getting a new Spanish car! He is a Gib resident with a house in Spain, so that is why I said that he lives here or there depending on whose asking! It was meant to be funny! Not something dodgy! For example he got caught speeding by one of those hidden cars recently (see policemen are human too!) and as he was on his Gib bike, he had 2 choices...if he told showed them his NIE (needed originally to buy the house) and gave him his Spanish address then he would be given a ticket and would have to go and pay in with 7 days....or if he told them his Gib address and showed them his Gib residencia he gets an on the spot fine.....both are 70€.....but as he had the cash on him he choose the pay now option as it saved him a trip to the townhall! Don't judge us please! |

A visitor to Spain (your OH) can drive a Spanish Reg or foreign reg Vehicle. Having a house here makes no difference, and in fact many people who have a house also have a vehicle. Thus I don't see there was any problem producing any documents including his NIE and giving his Spanish address. I am not sure that would have stopped the on the spot payment demand. A resident of course has, I believe, a month to pay and then will get a 50% discount. A friend of mine had his car was towed Tuesday. As a resident he was able to go directly to the pound, pay the tow fee, 64€ and was told his fine, 90€, would be in the post, and that the 50% discount would apply if he plaid within one month. |

Re: driving license help needed
Hello,
Our life is always complicated! With any speeding fines, the regular ones around here are 100€, if you pay within 7 days you receive a 30% discount......as he was paying on the spot it was obviously within the 7 days so he only had to pay 70€... Foreign plated cars normal always have an on-the-spot fine and if you don't have the money they take your vehicle until you do (or the police in Puerto Banus have been know to drive people to cash machines or to their homes to get the money!) Fun and games! |
