Nice men though for the guardia.

I cant believe you are are still dithering , if its illegal or your not sure then assume it is and park it up out sight, alternativley go to the bank and get some cash for your fine.

We are not dithering.

The van was lent to us as a courtesy car by the mechanic doing the work.We checked him out beforehand and he has been trading here for a few years now and thought he seemed above board.

Evidently not.

Saw the same guardia blokes in town not long ago and asked them if they knew anything yet and they dont but said theyd be in touch when they do.

So we wait.

If its a UK car they wont be able to find anything out other than if its stolen/wanted by UK police, assuming you have the insurance cert call the insurance co and confirm its valid, alternativley take the van back to the mechanic and use shank`s pony or hire a car , problem solved

I am sure i read somewhere that if a UK car is not being driven on a holiday trip, then only the registered owner is allowed to drive during the time it is allowed in the country until it needs to be changed to Spanish reg.

They can find out all the necessary info that the car is legal on UK roads just by a phone call to the DVLA. Its all on their computer system. Road Tax, MOT. Insurance and whether or not it's had an Insurance recorded accident and whether it has been repaired and tested.
