Default Donosti Holidays

Looking for tips on a Pension or Casa Rural in the San Sebasti area- or maybe even an apartment for rent for 1-2 weeks...though that seems difficult. Even have thought of renting a caravan for a couple weeks- though from what I see of pricing, that may not save us anything over car rent/hoterls-pensiones. At 1.6 $$ per 1 Euro, price is a big factor.

Or any of you that have an extra bedroom and need your dishes washed and trash taken out for a few weeks...let me know!

Edit to add : looking for suggestions. Vacation planned for May 7- May 27

Hi Ironporer,

I remember you from the Marriage Based visa forums. Your wife is from Spain, right?

My wife is also from Spain. Her mom's family is from San Sebastian. We've stayed at this place a few times:

http://www.pensionamaiur.com/

It's pretty nice. Right in the old section.

No we do not!
Running a Casa Rural we feel the best place to look for one is http://www.toprural.com/.
You will be able to see reviews of establishments too.
The also list some other forms of accommodations.

There’s (what looks to be) a nice new basic hotel just opened up opposite the Kursaal - www.arrizulhotel.com. Don’t know anyone who has been cause it’s always full, but you could give it a go.

I often recommend the pension bellas artes, www.pension-bellasartes.com, as they are really friendly and have really charming rooms. Ask for Leire who speaks very good english. Otherwise www.sansebastianturismo.com has a whole bunch.

Closest caravan site is in Hondarribia although there’s talk of building something closer.

For flats, I’ve been recommended www.niumba.com although never tried it plenty of flats in donosti though. I’ve also rented a two-bed flat over the river from the Kursaal when friends came, think it’s about a thousand a week at that time. I can get you details of you like.

Isn’t San Sebastian a Costa town too – think so!!

That does surprise us as a lot of Spanish are usually very late in booking somewhere. For instance we are still getting phone calls for this Easter weekend. We have been booked for quite some time but we only have 6 bedrooms, plus it is high season, unlike April.
Maybe try looking at http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g187453-Basque-Hotels.html they have customer’s reviews but mainly deal with hotels and the odd Casa rural. Go down the page a bit for hotel reviews.

I found most hostales and pensiones hold the rooms summer after summer for their 'regulars'. in fact they even sounded shocked when i asked if they had any rooms

While I tend to forget it- yes it is...tho not in the usual BE sense of the term.
Thanks for all the help all. We finally booked a room in Orio, at a Casa Rural where we have stayed before, Aizperro...a 500 year old remodeled Caserio/working farm in the country, 2 KM from Orio. It was wonderful before- most all that you eat is raised/grown on the farm- from eggs to salad to beef and lamb. The family that runs it is also very nice. When we stayed there before it was kind of a pain because we did not rent a car, and had to be driven to the pueblo by the owners, to catch the bus to Donosti. This time I have reserved a mini-van (Opel Zafira) so this will not be an issue while I am there. After I leave (I can only stay 9 days) then Mrs. IP and IP Jr. will take a room in town, as she will remain another 2 weeks and does not drive. She actually has stayed at Pension Bellas Artes and Amaiur before on trips, and liked both.

Sounds lovely - Orio has changed a lot in the last 12 months with a new development and port. Very polemic as it was built on a very striking point next to the sea. Gorgeous place though! Enjoy!!
