It is.

These are the detailed instructions for seting up the Telefonica service.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE TELEFONICA ANSWERING SERVICE

1. Activate and Deactivate

You will need to use the star button (*) which is bottom left, beneath 7, and the hash but¬ton (#) which is bottom right, beneath 9.

To activate the automatic answering ser¬vice, pick up the phone and dial STAR ONE ZERO HASH.

To deactivate the service, pick up the phone and dial HASH ONE ZERO HASH.

These are the only actions required to start or to stop using the service.

2. Receiving Messages

If your phone rings for 20 seconds (5 rings) and you don’t answer, the service will auto¬matically cut in, inviting your caller to leave a message. You can easily change the recorded message from the default in Spanish (see 6 below). Also, if you're talking to one caller, and a second caller rings you, you'll hear an audible bleep on the line. If you dont respond to the new caller (see 9 below), the service will auto¬matically cut in, inviting the new caller to leave a message, while you continue to talk to the first caller. The service will store up to 20 min¬utes of recorded messages.

3. Listening to Messages

You can listen to your messages at any time, and there is no charge for doing so.
Lift the phone and listen. After a few sec¬onds, the dialing tone will disappear and a lady will tell you, in Spanish, how many mensajes nuevos (new messages) you have.

She will move to message number one, tell you on what day and at what time it was received, and then play you the message. After you have heard the message, you must press one of three buttons, as instructed

To hear the message again, press 1.
To store the message, press 2.
To erase the message, press 3.

Press one of these buttons. If you don't, the system will not move on to the next step. Once you have dealt with the first message, the lady will move on through all the others in the same way, until there are none left. When she has told you that "no hay mas mensajes" (there are no more messages), she'll say, `Para salir, pulse cero. Para opciones personales, pulse uno. " (To leave, press zero. For personal options, press one.)

If you have previously saved mes¬sages using option 2 after listening to them for the first time, the lady will follow your new messages with all your men¬sajes antiguos (old messages) and offer you the same three options at the end of each.

Press 0 to exit from the service or 1 to change your personal options including changing the language.

4. Changing the Language

English, French and German, as well as Spanish regional languages, are available. To change the language follow these steps.

Once you've listened to and dealt with any waiting messages select personal options by pressing 1.
You will now be offered four options, as follows:-

To change your greeting message, press 1
To change your access code, press 2
To activate the advice time, press 3
To change the language, press 4

From the next range of choices press 4 to change the lan¬guage. You'll then be asked to key in your access code. (Unless you have changed it yourself, this will be `0000'.)

Then press either 1 (to select Spanish as the language), or 2 (for a selection of regional Spanish accents), or 3 (for any other language). Assuming you pressed 3, you should now press, 1 (English), 2 (for French) or 3 (for German). Finally you'll be asked to press either 1 (to confirm your choice) or 2 (if it's wrong). Pressing 2 will take you back to the previous step. After that, replace the receiv¬er. Next time you pick it up, you'll hear the service in your chosen language.

5. The Access Code

You need to use the access code if you want to change the greeting message, (see 6 below), or to pick up your messages remote¬ly, by calling your own telephone from another (see 8 below). The access code con¬sists of four numbers and, if haven’t changed it already, will be set by Telefonica as "0000" - four zeros.

Note that you only need to change the code if you intend to listen to your messages by calling your own phone from another. For security, the system will not allow you to do this if you have left the code as "0000". Follow the instructions in 3 above, to the point where you have heard all your messages and you are offered the “personal options” by pressing 1
You will now be offered four options, as follows, from which you choose the second

To change your greeting message, press 1
To change your access code, press 2
To activate the advice time, press 3
To change the language, press 4

Now you will be asked to key in your existing access code - "0000" if you haven’t already changed it. Next, you will be asked to key in your new 4 digit access code. You will then be read back the four figures which you have just keyed in. If they are correct, press 1, and you will be told that your new access code has been registered. If they're not, press 2.

If you don’t change it as outlined below, the service plays your caller a message which says, "You’ve called (phone number). At the moment, I can’t attend to you. If you wish, you can leave a message after the tone. Thank you.

6. Recording your own Greeting

To record your own message replacing this, first deal with any new messages as outlined above to get to the personal options as before and select option 1 (change your greeting message) and key in your access code when asked.

You will now be told you that, if you want record a new greeting message, you should start talking at the bleep, and that you have 30 seconds to say what you want. So, when the bleep comes, start recording your message.

When you've finished, press ANY KEY to end the recording. You will now hear your recording played back so that you can hear it. If it’s OK, press 1, but if you want to record it again, press 2.

After you've pressed 1, it's your own message which will be played to new callers. You can change your message as often as you want.

7. The Advice Time

You can get the service to telephone you at a set time every day, and advise you of all the messages which have been record¬ed from your callers that day. This part of the service is not activated until you go through the following procedure, so if you don't require it, ignore this paragraph.

To set the advice time, first deal with any new messages as outlined above to get to the personal options as before and select option 3.

This will take you to another menu, as fol¬lows:-
To hear the existing advice time, press 1
To set or modify the advice time, press 2
To deactivate the advice time, press 3

Press 2, and you will be asked to enter a 2 figure number corre¬sponding to the hour during which you wish to be called. Remember to use the 24-clock - so, for example, for 5 p.m., enter ONE SEVEN - and always enter 2 figures - so for 7a.m. enter ZERO SEVEN.
You will then be asked for the minutes past that hour, so enter a 2 figure number in the same way, from ZERO ZERO to FIVE NINE.

Finally, she will repeat the time which you have entered as your advice time, and ask you to confirm that it is correct. If it's right, press 1. If not, press 2.

You can change the advice time whenever you want by repeating this process, or can¬cel it altogether by selecting 3 from the above menu.

8. Remote Messages

You can pick up messages left on your tele¬phone from any other phone in the world, but only if you have already changed your access code from the default of `0000' set by Telefonica. (See 5 above).

To collect your messages, ring your own phone number and wait for the greeting message to begin. Then interrupt it by pressing the STAR key. You will be asked to key in your access code.
If the code is correct, it will start to play you the messages which are waiting, and you can deal with each in the usual way.

9. Call Waiting

If you're talking to a caller, and you hear a bleep, it means there's a second caller trying to get through.

If you want to speak to the second caller without terminating the first call, press R then 2. You can then switch back and forwards between the callers, by repeatedly pressing R then 2.
If you want to terminate the current call but continue the second, press R then 1.
If you don't acknowledge the second call, the answering service will cut in as usual.

10. The Telefonica DOMO phone.

This is the new phone that is usually provided by Telefonica with a new line.

It does not have a built in answerphone – it uses the normal answering service like any other phone. It does however have some useful features to make it easier to use the service.

You can activate/deactivate the service using special buttons.
To activate, lift the handset and press the “contestador” button.
To deactivate, lift the handset and press the “desactivar” button FOLLOWED by the “contestador” button.

If you have any messages the display will say “OIR MENSAJES” – lift the handset and press the “mensajes” button.
