doing our bit

over the last couple of weeks I have started re-cycling (yes I know everyone has been doing it for years). I never realised how much I actually throw away, the daily rubbish bags have more than halved now theres no glass, tins, plastic etc going in

does anyone else have any other energy saving tips they can share ?

I dont flush loo everytime :o you know the old saying "if its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down"

got those long lasting light bulbs too and been trying to think of other ways to help save the planet

Do you recycle supermarket bags? I re-use them and also use them for the waste bin. Got a couple of the bags for life too :)

we did that before (used a plastic bottle filled with water) BUT then we had a blocked loo twice as there wasnt enough water to "flush" away - wont go into details but sure you get my drift :(

When having a shower and applying showergel and shampoo turn the shower off, when you want to rinse it off turn back on.

Reminds me of a Mr Bean episode when he licks clean his plate and fork, and places them back inside the cupboard! Think he also took a bath fully dressed inside a twin tub?

Fill (& switch on) the electric kettle with just enough water to make your drink, or, better, fill a flask/thermos with hot water for the day.

It's also good for jellyfish stings...I got stung on the beach in Dubai once and remembered hearing about ..so thought in for a penny..peed on the sting which was agony, and virtually straight away the pain went...only trouble was it was on my nose !!..only other trouble was I got arrested for indecent exposure and commiting a lewd act.................last two statements a joke, but pee does work on the sting that is true..also energy saving as it cutes down on the production of antiseptics.........

Lynnxa

All I can tell you is that since our two lads moved out and started living away from home, our electicity bill dropped like a stone;)
Ever thought of getting them to move out if they are old enough...or if they aren't lending them out to couples contemplating starting a family;)
Think about it, you would save on the leccy and they would be put off having kiddies, so saving on electricity in the long run;)
A win win situation all round:D:rofl:
