Re: Dogs and Rentals

If you move in a rental property and you don't tell the landlord about your animals then they may just serve you notice straight away, which ensures you would have to go at the end of the contract period, so another move would be iminent, why lie or not mention pets, which ever way you look at it,
Better to just be honest and find the right place to begin with, notice on them.

Although I see your point, I had understood from posts earlier in the thread that it is actually illegal to decline a tenant because they have pets??

Illegal or not you would not be doing yourself any favours, a landlord can service notice at the beginning of the tenancy to ensure you leave at the end without a leg to stand on, so to speak, no court hearings etc, but, why would you want to be dishonest in the first place ? maybe think about how you would feel if the shoe was on the other foot !

I don`t think that is right because where we used to live the community had statutes added to the rules saying that no animals were allowed to be kept there.

If LL expresses his/her desire for no pets, you should look for another property.

not necessarily

our current landlord said no pets when we first looked at it

we told him we have 2 cats - he said OK

last time he was here he was cuddling one of them & telling us all about his cats:D

I have no problem when it is with LL approval. I feel it is dishonest to move in without telling your LL about your "extended family".

Someone less honest than you, might view the property, sign the lease and "forget" to mention the Rotwieler until after they move in.
