Hmm............clean!???

Yes, in terms of providing the bins..........but whether people actually USE them can be a different matter, in our (admittedly limited) experience!!

It is one of the biggest shocks living in our (otherwise beautiful) village, that people tend to just throw their litter on the street - even if there's a bin a metre away!
I'm forever picking up crisp packets, drinks cartons and cans from outside my door - and yet there's a wastepaper bin right there!!

I don't know what other people's experience of this is?

The "village ladies" sweep the streets regularly, but everyone - all ages - seem to chuck litter in the streets without a care :(

When I give the village children sweets, they know I expect them to put their wrappers in the bin - so that's a start!

When I was giving English lessons during the summer, I used this subject as a discussion topic with a group of teenagers from the village.
They all admitted that they were taught in school not to drop litter. Two girls said they never dropped litter outside their OWN houses  and one lad felt that it was justified to drop litter - because if he didn't, there wouldn't be jobs for the ladies who sweep the streets!!!!
I thought those kind of "justifications" went out of the window in the 70s!?

However, life here is a bit like it was 20 or 30 years ago in the UK......and that's why we love it!

Had to laugh the other day, there were gale force winds, papers and stuff blowing all over the place, people struggling to walk in a straight line, and there they are .... the spanish ladies ........ sweeping the pavements on the front of their houses :)

we pay people to do that on our urbanisation, and we also have the urbanisation pay for the rubbish collection, mind you we do pay for that out of out community fees, but everyone pays, even if they only stay for a couple of weeks a year.

You might have a local 'dump' too and take your rubbish there!! The Spanish don't bother, but it helps to keep the streets clean and we have to live with it, so every little bit of effort helps.

We had one close to us a few months ago, but now they are building and selling townhouses on it.
