I must admit to a liking of either Tiger Bread or Warburtons Crusty white with real butter and raspberry jam in my opinion can't be beaten. Although I don't mind the various Spanish breads.

The Mercadona 5 seed bread is the best alternative we've found in Spain.
Mercadona also used to sell lovely walnut bread next to the 5 seed bread - it was especially delicious toasted.

When they stopped doing it I asked why and said I'd miss it I was told 'they didn't know why and lots of people are saying the same'

We find nearly all of the Mercadona bread to be excellent. It stays fresh for a long time and most are made with sunflower or olive oil which we think is far more healthy than hydrogenated fats.

They also have a very good range. One of our favourites is 'pan de pueblo' which we think comes very close to a good English bakery slice your own loaf.

We have a lot of German bread shops around here. Great bread - far better than Spanish bread.

1. Mercadona integral sliced isn't sweet as some are, isn't a small loaf and (although I hate to think what makes it this way) seems to last for a very long time.
2. Pan de molde tends to be waaaay too sweet, bimbo being a prime example!
3. Peanut butter and bananaPeanut butter and jam/jellyPeanut butter and marmite
4. For 5-seed or whatever, Lidl's large unsliced is ace.

Did we eat white sliced bread in the UK? No

Expensive on the CDS. Some of their mixed grain loaves were 3to4 € for a smallish loaf.

Just out of interest, has anybody ever bought one of those sourdough loaves which the "craft" bakeries in the UK sell for £10 a loaf or more? I certainly haven't, I just wondered if they could possibly be worth that much.

Banana and jam sarnies, tripple decker of course...yummy

Banana and sweetened condensed milk sandwich is also yummy

Boiled egg and marmite is another midnight snack I love.

Last night about 01:30 I baked a French stick, and filled it with (butter) lamb, tomato's, onion, cucumber and mint sauce...tin of ice cold Guinness to wash it down and job well done

Warburtons thick slice makes a good slice of toast for an 'everyday' bread. Brace's is popular near me but its damp and soggy when fresh, awful stuff.

As a child I didn't have much choice.
When mum decided that school dinners had become too expensive, we got packed lunches - cheap ones. 2 slices of white bread with either cheese spread or some kind of paste in little jars called salmon, beef or crab. We also got a biscuit and an apple or banana.

Nobody liked the kid who had egg sandwiches for lunch.
