absolutely.........my kids speak better spanish than the other english kids at school (their teachers reckon they're pretty much fluent)- even those who have been here longer than us
I swear it's because they only watched spanish tele for over 3 years until a couple of months ago

eventually he realised he was going to be very lonely & hungry if he didn't communicate
I don't think it helped much that a the other 3 boys with us at the time were from this region & spoke valenciano to each other...(no problem for me - my kids speak it too & I understand quite a bit) but his attitude was 'I am Basque (in fact they were his first words to us) & you are all nothing'
we have told the language school that we don't want him back this year............

When I first went out there I remember sitting trying to listen to a commentary of a football match, and thinking....."Oh my Christ I will never ever learn this language!"
