Default Diving in!

Hi All.... I have a dream lol

Myself and the OH are currently selling our house in the uk with the intention of using the capital to buy a house (with some land) in the Granada region. We are in our 40's (so a long way off retiring still) and are also planning to buy a couple of small properties to let as holiday rentals to give us a small income (we don't want to be rich, just have a better standard of life). I think that we've finally got our heads around the buying process and the fact that we/one of us will have to register as autonomous as soon as we get there so that we can pay into the social system for healthcare etc but are still confused as to whether we should register as a company or as individuals.... We want to live as cheaply as possible but want to be legitimate in every way? Is there any advice that anyone here could give us in relation to any aspect of our plan? Also, if we owned land is there any kind of subsidy that we can apply for?

Thanks in advance!

Ps will marry before we get there!

Property rental is not easy;
Do you have any experience?
How do you intend marketing?
Have you researched the market in your chosen location?
Beware, family and friends will expect free holidays.

Good luck

Can't agree more with missile. If you are renting property for holidays, make sure that everybody knows it is a business and you need the income to live off!
No freebies, and no discounts to anybody, including friends and family. I once rented a house to a "friend of a friend" on a long term basis. Never no more.

Definitely research the areas around which have a high number of tourists. I repeat the two posts above me when I say don't give free holidays to family and friends. And definitely not friends of friends. You won't make any money doing that.

Concentrate on providing good customer service and a great stay for people and you'll build a good loyal customer base who may return to Spain year after year and stay in your properties.

I hope you have checked the Winter climate in the area you are considering buying and also the quality of the properties with regard to insulation etc which is usually non existent in older properties, otherwise you could be in for an unpleasant surprise.
On the other hand if you are closer to the coastal areas it shouldn't be so bad.
Apologies in advance if you have done the necessary research in this respect and I am trying to teach Grannie to suck eggs.
