Re: A different view of Benidorm
I think the first photo is of the leon dormido (sleeping lion) mountain range. I had some friends in Polop and there were fantastic views from there.

Where are all the lovely houses and flowers, quaint villages and 'country pubs'

Do wonder sometimes, there is a phrase from Hamlet ; "the lady doth protest too much methinks" .

Some spectacular views on that blog though. Made me look at Benidorm in a new way. It must have been a harsh place to earn a living prior to the tourism influx.

Well it's not my blog, nor my pictures, but I thought a few people here would enjoy looking at it. Good to see some nice, positive pictures of nature, after what else has happened this week.

I did like this quote:
In those early years the
coach trip from Valencia took four and a half hours.

Good link Dick. I'm not sure about the quote stating Benidorm providing 12% of Spain's GDP though. Maybe the whole tourist sector (which include Malaga, the Baleares and the Canary isles) though?
I did like this quote:
I think I may have been on that coach in the past!

Flying in to Valencia with a break on the four and a half hour journey for a bite to eat,..bottle of wine 9 pesetas,(6 pence) dinner 15 pesetas,(10 pence),at a guess.
First a Spanish resort, then Dutch, then German, before the Brits took over the Levante end.

Benidorm is a strange place that I know very well. You’ve got that three-mile stretch of high rises bouncing with holidaymakers and a hinterland that never gets a mention in the tourist brochures. The mountain walks around Benidorm are amazing.
You can walk from Rincoln de Loix to Albir across an incredible mountain range, bordering the sea; inland from Finistrat you’re in mountain walkers heaven; and if you’re not impressed with Polop, you should stick to Blackpool (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
I would imagine that 99% of holidaymakers will never even get to see the cross above Rincoln de Loix, they’ll be happy enough dancing the night away in the Square and lying on the Levante Beach to get brown and recover their senses.
And the mountain walkers don’t spend near as much money as a stag party from Leeds.
