Default Dental braces

We have just been informed by our UK dentist that our eldest son needs braces (top and bottom). As they would need adjusting every 6 weeks for 6 months we are going to have them done in Spain. Anyone have any idea how much braces are here.

I was talking to a friend in the UK and she was told her son needs braces and was told it was going to cost £3,000. She asked about having them done on the NHS, which is now done on a points system, and was accepted.

If it is going to cost about 3,000 euros it would make monetary sense to have them done in the UK on the NHS (he has enough points) and fly back to the UK every 6 weeks to have them adjusted.

I'm sure prices will vary, but 3,000 euros (approx) is what it costs here in Jerez.

Oh dear.

Our daughter will need braces in the future too but she is going through the serial extractions bit at the moment.

We havent sorted our dental issue out yet but this price is exactly what we dont want to hear.

Do you think travelling back every six weeks is viable-those six week gaps will soon come around.

Im as stumped as you as to what do.

why is everything in Spain so expensive?

Wheres our european healthcare-were all members of the EU arent we?

Would we be covered for braces if we pay into the spanish health system?

I wonder the same thing every single day so annoying isnt it.

Braces are between 2500-3000 euros round here, i have heard of some denstist charging up to 7000 for exactly the same treatment!!!

And no i dont think you can get them on the natioanl health service here, unfortunately...! I have had them TWICE as my teeth went wonky after the 1st stint (7 years with braces) and had to pay both times as my first dentist said 'it wasnt his fault' (needles to say the 2nd time i went elsewhere).

forgot to add, my dentist asked for 400euros down as a deposit then 70 euros per month until its all paid off, no interest charge or nothing, it may be easier than flying back and forth for the OP!

I'm not trying to go off-topic, honestly. But does anyone know general prices for treatment here?

I am part way through the process of having root treatment which will then have to be pegged and a crown fitted. The first part, the root extraction cost 120 euros! What can I expect to pay for the rest?

Back on topic, our daughter will also need braces to align her teeth - oh dear, time for another mortgage I think

How can you have free UK NHS dental treatment when resident in Spain?

Expect to pay at least double back or even a prison sentence if they find out.

I could be wrong but I dont thinks so, braces are classed as cosmetic.
There might be someone on here who has had it free on the SS, and they could tell you how to go about it.

Even you do pay Social Security, dental treatments are not free. All treatments have to be paid for.

My daughters friend recently paid in the region of €2500 to have braces. I am almost sure that dental checkups for children under 14 are free but fillings etc have to be paid for.

no, dental care isn't included for anyone, but most dentists let you pay for expensive treatment in installments

The dentist knows we live in Spain. We pay into Denplan and he takes on our kids on the NHS. We are still in the system as my husband pays National Insurance contributions as self employed and he submits a tax return each year.
