Is Denia really Windy?
Hi,
I´m thinking about moving to Denia, but I´ve been told it gets really windy.
Can someone who lives in Denia confirm this?
Thanks Darren

I would have thought it gets about as windy as it can get anywhere else in Spain or the world really.
There are "storms" which can affect the whole area - from strong gusts (like a few days ago) to tornados...(Gandia last year, Javea a few years ago)...and "waterspouts"...(along the coast!).

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

It's excellent if you are a windsurfer, although you may end up in Ibiza :-)

Re: Is Denia really Windy?
surely a bit of air movement is better than none at all
this summer period in Granada has been really bad with no air movement, not even any movement in the night so same temp when you get up as when you went to bed and all the time inbetween.
air movement is a natural thing on the coast as it is higher up on the mountains, just depends on if you can cope with the extremes it can bring

Re: Is Denia really Windy?
The coastal stretch from Las Marinas in Denia to Oliva is exposed and can get a bit windy, but the only time it gets uncomfortable is when the rains come after crossing the Sahara and turn the whole place brown.
I used to live in the centre of Denia and parked my car in the street. I have washed the sand off it quite often in the winter, but it's not a big deal. Just use cold water.

Re: Is Denia really Windy?
I've heard that Denia can be windy and indeed it was when I was on Las Marinas a couple of years ago. Not a pleasant breeze either - it was a sand in your eyes, beach balls flying everywhere kind of wind. However I also got the impression that other parts of Denia weren't so windy - with the Montgo and the headlands I suspect some parts are quite sheltered while other areas are exposed and have all the wind channelled to them.
