Default Darker and colder

Well its nearly September, the nights are drawing in,soon it will be colder, foggier, wetter but cozy nights indoors with the central heating on,watching tv..............thats what living in England is all about!
Hello,we have been back in England for 3 months now,we dont miss this time of year out in Spain,as nice as it is in Spain,we did it,we enjoyed it,but now we are happy to be back 'home'. This is going to be our 1st autumn/winter back home for a few years,we are actually looking forward to it too!The schools go back within the next week, after that time just shoots along, you start seeing fancy dress things for halloween, then fireworks for bonfire night, then once that has finished its straight out with christmas things in the shops.......but then ther atmosphere changes to that time of year, people seem to get in the xmas spirit, hopefully snow falls as well this year !
Anyway wherever you are this time of year, enjoy it appreciate what you have got.........but never forget where you come from.
Adios!

We are feeling this too. We've been in the UK for three months also, although I think we will return to Spain for the winter.

I know what you mean altho the cold and dark are things that are nice for a little while, but from memory are endless and gloomy when theres nothing else and its not a novelty.

That said, the heat, the mozzies, flies, sun are wearing a bit thin over here now and I'm looking forward to the first day of rain !!!

I went back last Christmas, good for the first couple of days, then the endless long dark nights set in. The sun became a distant memory...
Got that plane back pretty sharpish.

Must admit, I can't stand this time of year (and about the next 8 months) in the UK, roll on the day we make the move!

This has been our first summer in Spain, and nothing could have prepared us for the heat, you have to experience it, but we have survived, done lots of swimming and sitting in the shade reading. We are looking forward to the winter here (we did arrive in the winter last year), it's much more pleasant than back in the UK where it's freezing cold, sitting in front of a tv or computer all night, packed shops, and Christmas starts in the shops in September building up into a frenzy by December, traffic jams, I could go on and on. I prefer the much more low key approach to Christmas, quiet shops and roads and a milder winter.

Christmas arrives earlier and earlier every year in the shops in the UK, by the time it arrives they have taken all the pleasure out of it. Forgot to mention all the doom and gloom on the news on tv and in the papers, makes you feel really depressed.

Maybe the first post was a joke.

1st post wasnt a joke, wouldnt waste my time telling lies on here! There r good things out there in spain, but like all places there is not so good.Dont miss it,still have family there...........but i suppose i prefer the english way of life, things get done and work properly, not as many back handers like out there in spain...........very very corrupt place. The police are the worse for that, one day they might sort out how to do their job properly.I can only go by where we lived, not other places in spain that i dont know.

Winter foods go someway to compensate. Colder parts of Spain (centre and north) often have their warming caldos and hearty foods to sample on a cold foggy day. Back in the UK where would we be without the Sunday roasts, Toad in the Hole, Shepherds Pie etc?
