Default Credit Cards with RFID

I don't think anything on this subject has been posted before. If you have a credit card with an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) logo on it (looks like 5 small concentric arcs) there is concern that your card information can be read by cheaply available readers which can read the information even if you card is in your bag or wallet. The reader has to be held briefly within a few inches of the card. The card companies contend that they have sophisticated fraud prevention which prevents anyone doing anything with the information. However it has been suggested that enough information can be obtained to produce a cloned card. I don't want to alarm anyone but I think it's better to be aware of such potential problems.

There are quite a few interesting videos on the subject on YouTube.

Hi

There have been "scare" emails and even mentioned on TV - saw my first card the other day - you can buy special wallets / purses for them

Does make you wonder if it is real, just a scare story, or some great money making scheme by someone to produce "safe credit card wallets" that protect them...

You could have a point - although there are stories from some reputable sources. Apparently 2 layers of aluminium foil round the card or card sleeve can reduce the risk.

Just call your bank and ask them to remove it from your card, they will do it over the phone.
