Re: CRB/Spain (UPDATED)

All done, certificate arrived Friday  For anyone returning to the UK who needs this certificate here is what you need to do ...

Go to the site for the Ministry of Justice...
You are looking for ... Certificado de Antecedentes Penales

Download and print off the form 790, there are three pages (all in Spanish) and they all need to be completed and returned to ...

Central Office of Citizen Services of the Ministry of Justice

Plaza de Jacinto Benavente, 3

28071- Madrid.

You will need a photocopy of your passport verified by a solicitor or doctor .. we were quoted £20 by our doctor but only £5 by a solicitor.

You will need to send the money by IBAN ... here's a tip, don't ask the bank to do it for you, you can do it yourself online. Our bank, Halifax quoted £19.50 (Santander quoted £25) but doing it myself online cost only £9.50  attach proof that you have paid .. I got a print off of the page confirming the payment. The whole thing cost £12.50 (to include the 3.54 euro for the certificate) The certificate was here in a week so not long to wait

The hardest part was making sure the form was filled in corectly but we had help from the Spanish tutor at our local college :)

We sent the forms off with a 5 euro note first of all but this was returned with the forms and a letter (in Spanish, no translation, so back to our friendly Spanish tutor :)) asking for us to re-submit and send the money by bank transfer ... no getting out of that  They just don't take cash and no way were they prepared to bend the rules :p

Perhaps a mod would like to add this to the FREE BEER THREAD

Alternatively, if you want, you can do it in person. It's the same paper you have to fill in, same fee but no solicitor. The problem is that not all cities have a Gerencia Territorial de Justicia, but if you happen to live in one of them, it might be easier (and definitely faster).

List of cities: http://www.mjusticia.gob.es/BUSCADIR...ias&lang=es_es

Thank you, this is sooo helpful!!! Have been looking everywhere trying to figure out what i needed to do. Have been on the Ministerio de Justicia website as well, but it was so convoluted and I was getting so confused about what I actually needed to do and was sure it was fairly simple... you have just provided a perfectly clear explanation, thank you so much!

Thanks, I'm going to get started on it today... I'll let you know if I run into any trouble, but fingers crossed it all goes smoothly!:D I know this is totally unrealistic, but it would probably be really helpful if there was a link to your instructions on the Ministerio de Justicia website! I'm sure you could ask for a fee :D

It helped that I know a little Spanish but when it comes to filling in forms it pays to get some help from someone who is fluent in the language so as not to miss anything important. When the CRB was finally sent to us it was all in Spanish and very easy to translate but we still had to have it translated by the college on headed paper

My 2 CRB checks cost me nothing, thankfully, one was a basic one, and the other one, for my work, was the full one, as we occasionally had to do tests on children.

Hey there! Only just got round to looking at the form 790, had to get my passport verified (took it to a solicitor as suggested, only a fiver as you said!)...

I have a few questions that I'm hoping maybe you can help with...

1. There are 3 sides to the form, but aren't the first two exactly the same?? or am I missing something? I guess I don't understand because every part of the form also seems to be asking for the same info.
2. Obviously I live at a different address now as I'm back in the UK, so are they going to accept my application with my UK address on it, especially as I'll be submitting my NIE form with it which has my spanish address on it?
3. It seems like they want you to submit your original NIE form... do they send it back to you?

I was planning on just submitting the completed 790 with the passport verification copies and a copy of my NIE... is that sufficient?

Thanks again for all your help!!! I'm sure I'll have more questions later, sorry!:)

Yes there are three pages to the form, and yes the first two are exactly the same (don't know why) fill all of them in. The first page fill in the top section with your name and UK address. Don't put anything in the NIF box. Write your surname in primer apellido, leave the next box, secundo apellido blank - unless you have a double barelled surname as is usual in Spain. there is a blue section, put a X in the box (No 20) - this is asking you if you want to receive your certificate by post. Next part complete the boxes .. (22) your surname (24) your first name (25) date of birth (26) place of birth (27) county of birth (28) country you are from (29) country of your nationality (30) your fathers name (31) your mothers name. Date and sign (Firma: ... your signature) the form and put the amount of 3.54 euro in the box IMPORTE euro (this is regardless of how much it is actually costing you to send the money it is just the cost of the certificate which is entered into this box) Fill in the second page exactly the same. One of the pages has a large blank section so you only need fill in the top part with your name and UK address and of course date it, sign it and write in the 3.54 euro in the box. All you need to send with the 3 pages are a photocopy of your passport with the stamped verification and proof of your payment by IBAN ... do this online as it is cheaper than asking the bank to do it for you. Easy to do

So in your envelope you will put ... the 3 completed pages, one photocopy of your passport and proof of payment. Nothing else, that's it

Within the week you should receive your Spanish CRB which will be on one sheet of paper and completely in Spanish so you may need to have this translated for your prospective employer. The CRB translates as:

REGISTRO CENTRAL DE PENADOS ... Central Registry of Convicts

Mr Jose Manuel Garcia Toresano Ministry of Justice clerk in Madrid certifies:

That on the stated date, consulting the Central Registry database of convicts. no criminal records appear relating to:

Mr ...... (your name will be here) with passport number ...........

This certificate reflects the situation of the interested party on the date that it was sent and it is exclusively issued for the purpose of paperwork in the UK.

The certificate will be stamped and signed.

All providing you have behaved yourself whilst in Spain ;)

Hope this helps

Just to add .... you don't send your NIE form they don't ask for it and you don't even need to quote the number. All that is needed is your passport number and they will find you (if you have been naughty)

Haha, I'm pretty sure they won't come back with anything, I was a good girl! :)

This is all really helpful, thank you very much. But of course I still have questions (sorry! :o ) I'm nearly done, just one question with the form and one about payment. On the form there is a section C. that says 'SI EL CERTIFICADO HA DE TENER EFECTOS EN EL EXTRANJERO' and underneath there are 3 subsections to complete which say 'FINALIDAD' 'PAIS' and 'AUTORIDAD'. Does this mean that in order for it to be deemed legal in the UK I need to get it authorised somehow? Or is that where the certified passport copy comes into play?

With regards to the payment, I assume you did an online transfer... can I ask where you found the account details to transfer to?

Thank you again! Hopefully I'll have it sent off by the end of the week... it's a process! Especially as my Spanish is only OK (but fairly limited when it comes to legal documents!) Thanks again, I feel like I'll owe you a beer (or several) by the end of this! :p

If you were a good girl then nothing to worry about  and the whole thing is pretty quick and will be returned by registered letter so will need a signature. Here are the answers to your queries..

FINALIDAD (purpose) .. employment
PAIS (country) .. UK
AUTORIDAD (authority/company) .. your future employer

Yes, the authentication is your copy of passport verified by your solicitor.

The details for the IBAN are shown on the ministry of Justice site but here they are ....

ENTIDAD: BBVA
NUMERO CUENTA: 0182-2370-42-0208000060
TITULAR DE LA CUENTA: Ministerio de Justicia - Cuenta Restringida Recaudación Tasas Extranjero
NIF DEL TITULAR DE LA CUENTA: S-2813610-I
IBAN o Código Internacional de Cuenta Bancaria: IBAN ES62 0182 2370 4202 0800 0060
Código de Identificación Bancario (BIC) del BBVA: BBVAESMMXXX

Hope all goes well

Thanks for this!

I don't know about your bank, but with Natwest when you do a transfer online, they want you to put the address of the bank you're transferring to... I take it I should just put the address for BBVA Madrid?

I promise that's the last question! Thanks!:D

That's all I put. The details (IBAN number etc) will be particular to the account for the Ministry of Justice. Good luck with it  I will be interested to know how you get on if you wouldn't mind adding to this thread to let me know :)
