And it is interesting to see how many killed each year on the roads here werent wearing seatbelts. We have Spanish friends who view them as optional around town! Do a physical count from a roadside cafe. You will be surprised or maybe not, throw in those on hand held mobiles and laptops even……

My own view is tailgating and general decent spacing would be better areas to tackle. Most people on the roads havent a clue on stopping distances.

Never seen that statistic.

In the 'old' days they were optional around town - I remember years ago going to Madrid on business, got in a taxi in the centre to go back out to the airport and as we approached a dual carriageway the taxista put his belt on - I thought what the hell, now what...

I recently took a cab where the lady driver didn't have her seatbelt on and the car kept producing these annoying chimes as is the norm these days and yet she didn't care. I still wonder whether she drives around all day like that... with those annoying sounds ringing about in the car throughout the entire day.
