Default costs of running a car

hi, it's looking like i will have to buy a small car when i move to murcia , if i want to choose an inland town which is my preference,so i am now trying to figure out approximate costs involved. I am hoping to get a small ,Fiesta size, car which i will be using for 6 months each year. Can anyone give me a rough idea what the cost of tax ,insurance (65 year old driver) also is there any other local costs involved? Thank;s in advance,Billy

You will have annual road tax ( ITVM ) to the local tax office which depends on car model, engine type etc , probably about Euro 100,- or less. Older cars annual technical inspection depends which province you live in about Euro 30 /40,- Insurance suggest you get a quote from one of the many english-speakers brokers you can find on the web

Why annual? Normally every two years (4 - 10 years old) unless it's over 10 years old in which case you're correct and it's every year.

I think he was mixing up the Road tax and the ITV, or trying to combine them, however, when I ran a Clio in Spain, road tax was just €35 a year.

Of course for the annual inspection , just assumed we were talking about an older car. The ITVM falls every year.

All depends where you are (as it's a local tax). Here for a 2 litre car (petrol or diesel) it's 148€

The ITV is the equivalent of the UK MOT and costs about Euro 30 - Euro 40,- depending on the province. It applies to cars over 4 years old and has to be done every two years until the car is 10 years old then has to be done annually.
The annual road tax ( ITVM ) is charged by the local tax office and is based on the car's specification so can be quite low or quite high ( Euro 40,- Euro 160,- )

Or every six months if the vehicle is a Peugeot Partner, Citroen Berlingo type vehicle and was first registered as Mixto Adapt and not Tourismo (a common ploy by the first owner to save on first registration tax)?
