Awww no! ....... shame about the restaurants, what a nice experience that was to eat on the beach. I hope the enterprising restauranters find a way to meet the standards and set up again.
Re the story - very funny! Interesting that he let himself go in anyway!! :) |

Does anyone know if you can get taxi's from esuri into town easily? Many thanks Kerry When I was out a couple of weeks ago we rang a number of taxis, many of who agreed to pick us up at the apartment but didn't turn up. We found one driver who made the effort to get his English speaking friend to ring us back and get exact directions. He then picked us up in both CE and Ayamnote each night without question. If you would like his details please drop me a PM Jason |

For anyone driving down from Santander etc to Costa Esuri would thoroughly recommend a stop at Merida to see the Roman ruins. It is about 1 & 1/2 hours from Esuri.

You are absolutely right, the Roman ruins in Merida are well worth a stopover, but please note that Merida is approx. 250 kms from Ayamonte. Unless you're thinking of flying, it will take you a little more than 90 minutes, even now that the autovia Ruta de la Plata is at last complete between Sevilla and Merida.

Correction, its even further than I said! Its about 320 kms from Ayamonte to Merida.
Iant Glad you brought this topic back for attention. Please bear with me, my post does eventually lead to Esuri.:) I agree that Merida is well worth a visit. The photos posted of the roman ruins reminded me of when we stayed there in a 3* hotel - it was walking distance from most sites. In the heat of the summer in Extremadura, we were glad to be able to dive in and out of cooler buildings. The hotel had a private, locked garage, too. (PM me anybody who might wish to know the name.) Merida is a good base to tour around Caceres, and Trujillo (the latter a bit further away - east towards Madrid). Badajoz, too. Enchanting. The drive south towards Sevilla, at that time was longer, because of the construction work on the "new" road (Ruta de la Plata). Traffic could come to a standstill at Santa Olalla (?), especially if a lorry shed it's load. On our way south, we turned right (like Bugs Bunny) at Zafra (a place I'd like to explore), and passed town names like Jerez de los Caballeros. (The conquistadores are prominent in this area.) We climbed into the Sierra de Aracena, saw lots of black pigs, and stopped for cool drinks in Jabugo. So, instead of taking the #435 state road from Jabugo to Valverde del Camino and onwards, we did an "Elmer Phudd" dive towards Cabezas Rubias and Puebla de Guzman. Thinking this would lead us to Esuri via Villablanca, etc... Oh no! Oh yes! It was a bit of a bone rattler. It seemed to take forever, as it does when all you just want is to get to your destination. Now, does anybody want to see my recent pictures of Moguer and El Rocio?:o Regards, Carol |
