I don't think anyone else has mentioned this but you seriously need to think about the regulations of bringing pets into Spain, found this for you:

We brought our cats down oursleves by car stopping the way along the journey and using the Forumula 1 motel 6 chain in France which accepts pets.

Our cats sensed we were with them and very quickly relaxed and slept, bit like normal then!
