Re: cost of living

Hi oskarkeeley,

Unfortunately I don't know of any online calculating tool that would help, to be honest wouldn't know where to start looking.
I belong to another forum for expats in Portugal. I don't know how similar the countries are, no doubt someone will correct me.
On the thread the question was how much things cost? Alot of constuctive input was added and I think the concensus was that at least 1000Euro's was needed per month to cover, rent/mortgage, insurances, food, electric, water etc.

If this isn't any help, apologies, just trying to help.

P.s. Where abouts in Shropshire? I'm Shropshire born, just over border in Wales now in Chirk.

Re: cost of living

Would depend how much the rent/mortgage is but I think a family would struggle on 1000 per month. They may manage but not much quality of life there, treats for the kids, meals out etc.

Cbandy sounds like a man more in tune with the OP who have similar circumstance to his.

You on the other hand have no experience in Spain of having to "rough it" or struggle and neither have the peole you know, because they all have good uni degrees in sought after fields.

Cbandy talks about the "Freebies" he gets which are not so generous as you make out.

BUT YOU NEED TO CORRECT HIM..............is that right?

Christ, all this "you dont have children so how do you know". It's such a numbskull argument of someone who lacks intelligence.

I have spoken to people in Spain who have told me that they have gotten a couple of grand back through the childrens tax allowances. MY OH has 4 siblings and the tax breaks were a great help to her family, it paid for their holiday every year.

CBandy's post was great, the only bit I didnt agree with was "Another factor to consider is that if you have kids you get NO HELP at all from the government" You do get SOME help.

Especially those about to "immigrate to Spain.".

I agree, I would double that and say 2,000 euros a month are needed to have a fairly decent quality of life as long as you dont have too many luxuries.

But then again, I am sure I'll be told I'm out of touch :)

Of course you are right, you are very lucky to have a family that tells you all their financial affairs, how much they earn, how much help they get in the way of benefits, how easy it is to access everything in Spain.

But as you say yourself you have no first hand experience, so how do you know that they are not like your little granny who told you lies and said that she only got 80 quid a week pension, when in fact she gets more.

That is why I would sooner listen to someone with the first hand knowledge (ie CBANDY and others) and not some theorist who listens to what could be "porkies" from the OH family and friends who could be as capable liars as your own lot.

Spunky little granny included:rofl::rofl:

OK that's gone too far. I've reported you now. You can't go around accusing people's faimilies of being liars.

You show a complete lack of class

Here is the chap again that started this thread by asking about online tools to caclulate comparable salary requirements.
Sorry, but don't get into fights with each other and it would have been nice to stay remotely with the original topic rather than digress to discuss cost of milk:)

I agree with him, I have said before you'd be better off telling us of things that you have personal experience of. Don't believe everything that everyone tells you and everything you read on the internet. It's not always true.

You show a complete lack of class
That I think is your main problem, you somehow think you are superior to everyone on this forum. You seem quite happy to refer to someone as "You are a bit stupid", and similar comments, if they don't agree with you.

I think that in the absence of hard facts instead of hearsay it is both pompous and patronising to say another members post is misleading, especially when that member has first hand experience of what is and what is not available to families with children in the case of CBANDY.

I do have friends with three young children and they get very little help from the government. They were made to feel like dirt when they applied for beccas and when other classmates heard they also made the kids feel bad.

Sorry oskarkeeley, I think the answer to your question is NO.

If you had done a search on this site for cost of living you will find several threads and they all end up in "fights"

What do you mean "absence of hard facts". Just talk to someone at hacienda or do a google search.

In fact I'll do it for you. Here you go, this article outlines the thousands of euros parents can claim back on their tax form each year to help pay for their children

http://www.todopapas.com/padres/porl...-la-renta-1668

The only one that doesnt apply in the 2,500 euro help at the bottom as they have now scrapped that.

I hope this helps someone!

Oh and no need to apologise...

As I said before, you are not entitled to any free or discount books or fees etc... for the first 3 years that the child is in school. Only when they are 6 or over. Please remember people that all Spains regions are autonomos and each have their own set of rules. My tax return this year did not even come to 600 euros so I dont know where all these 1000´s are supposed to come from. We do srtuggle some months as any couple with children do but we still have a nice holiday each year and the kids want for nothing (but they are not spoiled:D), We have a nice home and we can have treats such as days out, but in Spain you can have days out very cheaply indeed.
