Default Copy of NIE certificate

I know what my NIE number is but for the life of me I can't seem to find the official bit of paper it's written on. It was put in a "safe place" many years ago and I've stripped the house down but can't find it.
How do I get a copy? Do I have to visit in person (where?) or can I get an email/scan or whatever electronically as a temporary solution?
It's just that I may need to show it for something.
Thanks.

Do you have TIE? Your NIE is on it. Or if you still have the old paper/cardboard EU registration certificate/card, when you exchange it for TIE, it carries your NIE.

I have never had to show my original NIE paper - which is a form with handwriting on it in 23 years of living here.

So I would not worry - all your other papers, bank account etc etc have your NIE recorded so it is not an issue and of course, it never expires.

I think that's the answer then, thanks. As I said I have no need of other things that have my NIE on it as I do have those and so know what the number is, it was just the paper itself dedicated to the issue of the NIE that I thought I may need - but if the general opinion is that it's never needed anyway as it is on all that other stuff, then that'll do me. I'll just show if necessary something else with it on. It's in relation to my previous question about internet and they want my NIE number and with the DIGI suggestion they would require I receive the stuff from them personally and with proof of the NIE number.

You should find all the answers here: https://www.policia.es/_es/extranjeria_extranjeros.php

Replacement docs are covered under Tarjeta de Extranjero. It's not a page available in English.

Did you find out how to get a duplicate of the NIE Certificate whilst in Spain ? I need an official copy of mine, but I am having difficulty in finding an answer to this question.

The official at the Agencia Tributaria. I am trying to register on the Cl@ve System using the App, for reasons I won't bore you with. to do this, to register, I need an Electronic Certificate. To do this, you need the Certificado digital FNMT APP. You can get an Electronic Certificate from the Agencia Tributaria, by showing your Passport in person. I made an appointment with them, but when I turned up, the official insisted he could only give me an Electronic Certificate of a Spanish Document (even though both the Clave APP and the FNMT App had accepted my NIE number, and I showed him my tax return quoting my NIE Number). If I still have the original NIE Document, it is at home in the UK. I am currently in Spain for another week. Unless I can get a quick copy of the original NIE, it looks likely that I will have to search for the orignal document when I get home, and bring it back on my next return to Spain.

I have since found this site (https://mynie.co.uk/), but it is unlikely that I can get an appointment at the Police Sttion, and another appointment at the Agencia Tributaria before my return to the UK next week, so unless there is a way to download an offical NIE document, it looks like I'll have to wait until next time.

Hence my request.

The Cl@ve and the digital sig are two different things.
There are three ways to get one and you choose the option you did.

I choose to do it from home with zero hassles.
The digital sig we have is used by our solicitor and accountant to do the tax returns.
I have the Cl@ve on my mobile.

All I did (a couple of months ago) was register my spanish mobile with the app and they sent a letter with a code, of course I also needed to upload pictures of my TIE and input the code on that as well.
Once the letter arrives in a couple of days you go back to the app (or on a computer and enter the details) This then links the mobile with the Cl@ve app.
I used it to get the DGT app working but can also look at my tax returns etc independently of the digital cert which I found out only lasts for three years. (well there is a runout date on our paperwork anyway)
The Cl@ve app generates a code which is then accepted by the various Government departments, if you want to do other things.

Also here in the Valencia region you can visit one of the many 'help' centres to get the Digital cert, not sure if they are in other communities but its like a citizens advice but they help you with government paperwork, taxes etc.
You do need an appointment but thats easy via the websites..

Thanks Barrie,
I am in the Huelva region. I have neither a Spanish Mobile, or TIE, and my Spanish is less than schoolboy level. Any letters sent to me will, I believe, go to my Spanish address, and after next week, i will not be here.
However, after further research, as I only require registration on the Cl@ve System, and have filled in as much information as I can on that, I now believe I can bypass the FNMT App and that I don't need an electronic certificate, perhaps I can get on the system by personal presentation to a Registry Office with my NIE Number and passport, So tomorrow, I will try again, at a Social Security Office, and hope that they are more accomodating than the Agencia Tributaria. In fairness, I can't remember if I explained to them that I wanted to get on to Cl@ave, or just wanted an electronic certificate.

You can usually authenticate a Digital Certificate with your ID at your town hall.

A Cl@ve does not require you to personally identify yourself. In neither case do you need to produce an NIE certificate. If you get a Digital Certificate, it automatically sets up a Cl@ve for you.

Success ! (I think). In the online list of Registry Offices, most required an appointment to be made, but not the Town Hall, so (after reading Fred's comment), I decided that would be the best place to try. The guy on reception was very helpful even though his English was minimal, and my Spanish almost non existent., He directed me back to the Agencia Tributaria, explaining that I would need a Cadastral Certificate to go with my Passport and NIE number, so that I could Register my Identity. This was only around the corner, so a quick visit got me the necessary piece of paper. Back at the Town Hall, my man pointed me to the lady who took about 15 minutes to complete all the documents, which provided me with a Certification de Inscripcion Padronal Individual. Back to my man, who did some magic on his keyboard. Then I hit a snag. He said I needed my NIE certificate ! I explained this was in the UK, and he kindly rang someone who told him that the Register of Identity would suffice to create a Digital Certificate. After some further magic on his keyboard, and in my FNMT App, he sent me on my way with the assurance that in a few days, the colour of the application on the App would change from orange to green, and I could then proceed with my Cl@ve application. I wait with bated breath !

It just goes to show what can be achieved when one finds a helpful official , rather than the jobsworth type I ran in to initially.

Well my optimism was short lived.😮‍💨

As expcted, my FNMT entry turned from orange to blue after a couple days. I completed the process, and went back to the Cl@ve app, and chose the option to "activate with electronic certificate". Sure enough, my new digital certificate with both valid to and valid from dates shows up. The next screen gives me the option to register with an electronic certificate ( again), and upon choosing this I get the error message " Entered details error: Empty expiry date"
A trip back to the Town Hall ( my friendly guy isn't there) gets me directed back to the Agenci Tributaria office, where the original jobsworth tells me the Digital Certificate provided by the Town Hall is not sufficient , I have to supply my original NIE certificate.

Why ! Providing my NIE number brings up all my details in whichever government system it is entered, I have passport and utility documents to prove who i am, I'm not after any benefit, I just want to register on the bl#@dy Cl@ve system !

Realising I'm not going to change the official position, I visit the Policia National office to try to get a copy of my NIE certificate, I spend a whole morning in queues, getting the EX15 document completed, visiting the Bank to pay for it, returning to the police office, only to be told you have to make an appointment via the Internet, the procedure I had already visited the day before, only to be told at the end of it that no appointments were available!

I've now run out of time as I return to the UK tomorrow. When I do, I certainly hope I can find my original NIE document that I've managed to live without since it was issued over 20 years ago, and I'll try again for Cl@ve registration on my next visit.

The whole system is a joke. 😤
