Contributing to the system...

I do not have explain anything to anyone re my pension or otherwise I do so to explain my point on conforming to what the country in which you reside requires. My family is rather fortunate in that it has always been moneyed so it is therefore passed on. I attended Prep/Boarding School before university and moving on to my working for a living. I did have exceptional interpersonal skills and intellectual capabilities, so I worked abroad for a number of years. My pension is without shouting about it is more that most people earn on average in the UK I also have money of my own so I do not have any reason to do anything against the law. I am afraid most people fail to understand there is a diverse cross section of people on this forum not all are scrimping and stealing from their fellows.By the way the name I use has nothing to do with my financial status it was because I am a Manchester United fan and when David Beckham moved to the states poshnbucks made me smile. So there you are very boring and this is the last time I discuss such matters retired or otherwise.

Nothing like blowing your own trumpet!!!, "800k house and exceptional interpersonal skills and intellectual capabilities!!" ,I doubt anyone else on this forum would be so boastful, you could have said I have a nice house and had a well paid job!!

I agree there`s a diverse cross section post on this site and you to would do well to bear that in mind before casting aspersions ,I`m finacially secure but I`m not about to start boasting about my financial status or resort to criminal activities to improve them!! .

Rotor, the boat is Miss Aqua Doll featured in the Florida power boat circles with Andrew Gundersen. For the record, any boat of that performance bracket is not allowed on the Med coast of Spain by the Guardia due to the risk of it being used for drug or person trafficking to/from Africa. You will find a few shots of her and similar boats at http://flpowerboat.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=123

Is there really restrictions on your boats performance in spain?? I hate it when stupid laws are imposed that only affect the lawbiding people,no drug runner is going to worry about a fine for having to fast a boat.

Having read the whole of this discussion I would like to say, remove al the expats from Spain, I mean ALL, not just British, and I guess the economy would feel it very much.
I certainly do believe in using local tradespeople and as for learning the language, after 5 months here I can get by very well and I will be getting better. I can boast to speaking, reading and writing in 4 languages already and speaking in another 3 so an extra language is not going to bother me.
The author of this thread should be ashamed to compare everyone to his/her own inabilities and shortcomings.
Just thought I get this out of my system.

Yes there are restrictions. A friend in Marbella was doing rather well in the business and his son started to spend, spend, spend with a ferrari to begin with and then a very fast powerboat. It had just appeared in Puerto Banus (where else ???) when the Guardia came knocking on his door and said remove it from the Costa or have it impounded. I think the Guardia use the rule that nobody can keep a boat on the Costa which is faster than theirs - and they have some very quick boats. Check out http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...27aa0dcf24a20e to read more. To be honest I dont know what anyone would want a personal powerboat capable of 70 or 80 knots.
Not my cup of tea either but I believe in freedom of choice ,It`s like the handgun ban in the UK, only legitimate owners were affected, and hand gun crime has risen!,
I`d rather have steel hulled 60` motor sailer any day ,12-18 kts would be fine!!

BTW English is a third language for me. What is yours?

Ha ,I may have a dodgy car but not dodgy workmates ,just know of a lot of expats are dodgy, As for the speed boat, never crossed my mind but obviously yours to mention it, so how do you afford a 800k house on a home office pension??? more that one trip in your boat no doubt!!
for the record I`m not a builder.

We dont have as much spondoolicks as you two,(but there is only one POSH AND BECKS and only one POSHNBUCKS) but we dont need to fiddle or avoid paying our way.
We were in a position to come here and not have to worry about finding jobs. Although I would love to have an interesting job.
We are not pensioners, so we made sure that we would be OK. We thought long and hard about making the move even though we are both Spanish. No language problems for us, and we understand the culture.
Listening to my parents who were immigrants into the UK, they and many more were economic migrants really. They left their homes in Spain, Italy and Portugal to be able to support themselves and send money back to their families left behind.
The work situation was bad then, and like now, hardly any financial help. I find it a bit difficult to understand why so many British would want to come to Spain without having an income, and have to resort to various dodges.
(Avoiding paying one dues, and looking for odd jobs on a hit and miss basis, spring to mind)
In my judgement if you are not in a good financial position, the best country to be in is the UK. If (God forbid) anything happened and we saw ourselves in a mess, I think I would up sticks and head back to Blighty.
The Brits dont like it when other cultures take the mick in the uk, and neither do we.
I hate the attitude of laughing at the Brits who are legit, they are doing the right thing. Everytime I hear of a Brit dodging paying taxes or whatever, my blood boils.
Why should my family, a lot of them struggling too, born and bred natives of this country have to pay, while Johnny come lately foreigners, dont pay. Not only do they not pay, they revel in telling people on this forum how smart they are, and are laughing at the Spanish mugs who have to pay.
Dont forget a lot of Spanish people read this type of forum.

The only thing Rotor has done right so far is choosing the correct name as a nick.
Rotor as in stirring s**t.
I hate to split hairs or being drawn in some personal fight but I see many answers here and Rotor reads but does not comprehend. Sad.

I was going to ignore the system until I learned that you only have to pay in for 15 years as a self-employed person for full pension entitlement on retirement
I like the system now!

60' is a bit of a handful single handed and for me much over 40' becomes a bit too much unless you have a permanent crew but I like our privacy just the two of us sailing, not motor sailing where the mood takes us without need for more than a few litres of diesel a year for docking and undocking.
Speed motoring gets boring anyway after the first few times. Been there done it, learned to water ski that way
