Still seems quite warm out there in Madrid (26-29C max this week).

Still fairly pleasant in the UK (if a little wet). No frost forecast here this week. But a certain paper is predicting another harsh winter. Can't see it myself, but we'll see.

I like the way the headline screams Temperatures in London today are 16.5C lower than last week - well yes, but only because it was exceptionally warm last week. It's still very mild for October.

I had no need to worry about being cold during my trip to Madrid - we took coats to wear at night and they never left the apartment! The weather was great, absolutely perfect for sightseeing.

Still very warm down here in the Axarquia too, sleeping with just a top sheet on the bed although we are now closing the windows at night (only for the last 2 weeks though). Long may it continue.

I just know the long term forecasts for dire weather in the UK must be right though, because I'm due back for a visit for the first weekend in December!

Do forecasts more than a couple of months ahead have any credibility? If there's a link to one that does, I'd be very interested in looking!

Yes, I can absolutely guarantee it will be colder, wetter and windier than it has been for the last 5 months.

That's about as accurate a forecast as you are going to get. Any forecast over 14 days ahead is statistically more likely to be wrong than right.

I noticed when filling the swimming pool that the ground water runs warmer for much longer than usual. Somebody once explained that when the winter rains start, this would cause severe problems but I didn't understand it then and I don't understand it now.

Local Spaniards expect a severe Gota Fria this winter, but they've been saying that for weeks and the sun keeps shining. Mind you, the local council have been clearing the drains ready for the deluge.

Not sure I understand about the ground water but the weather in Aug/Sept and now October has been unusually warm. From my weather station records it has been the hottest in the 8 years that I have been recording it.

The Gota Fria is caused by extremes of weather in the Med during the transition period which is about now when we move from the settled summer micro climate in the Med to the winter Atlantic influence.

I would not be surprised to see some extreme weather in the next 30 days, especially on the east coast. It looks like the next week is OK but after that anything could happen!

Well I hope it does not cool down to quickly ,as I had to postpone my October trip until Nov because of family commitments. I still love my home in Spain though whatever the weather. Rain or shine I just love living in the village away from this demanding life in the UK:)

I'm also in the Axarquia, but must be at a higher altitude than you as I've put the duvet back on the bed and even dug out my old track-suit top to wear over my pj's in the morning before the sun comes up ...... oh, and went down to Lidl last week to buy a couple of electric blankets - not going to get caught out by the cold weather THIS year :thumbup:

Yes, the altitude does make a huge difference. We're less than 5km inland so not too different from the temperature on the coast.

I had a restless night so got up at 6.30 am and just sat around in a light cotton dressing gown for a couple of hours, not cold at all. The temperature in the house is still 25C. I do own a pair of fleece pjs for the depths of winter, but I don't sleep in them even then. Won't be going down to the corner shop in them, though, as many of the neighbours do. There's integration, and there's integration - that's a step too far!

We're about 550m above sea-level, the temp inside the house this morning was just 19C! Quite a difference from yours! I also own thick fleecy pjs but, unlike you, I DO wear them to sleep in, plus warm duvet and hot water bottle - looking forward to trying out the leccy blanket this year :)

We regularly have snow up here in the winter and bitingly cold winds - we'll probably move nearer to the coast in a few years time - I quite fancy strolling along the prom at Torré and not struggling with the steep hills we have here!
