Previously when I've hired a car in the UK I have had to have a code from the DVLA.
Next month I am hiring a car at Gatwick airport, the only difference now is that I've got a Spanish driving licence, Is there an equivalent to the DVLA code in Spain that I need to get when hiring a car in the UK?


I would like to hear from anybody that has recently hired a car in the UK with a Spanish driving licence and if it was a straight forward procedure ?

Really, only British citizens need it? Incidently, I have hired twice and got a code only to not have been asked for it. So itis not working anyway

I'm a British citizen and, as I said, I wasn't asked for it.

No code asked for, pre-booked from Europcar, showed Spanish driving licence and credit card all done

Nope.

The code to check a driving licence only applies to uk licences. DVLA can check uk licence for penalty points etc on behalf of the hire company so long as they have the code. It simply replaces the old paper part of the licence.
