When I went shopping today I saw cakes with 'Dia del Madre' on them. Looked on google and found that Mothers Day is the first Sunday in May, however I thought that mothers day was 8 December in 2006 so can anyone tell me what it is all about.

8th December - Immaculada Concepcion
#7
(from Wikipedia)
Dec 8th - the feast day of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary herself, not to be confused with the doctrines of incarnation and virgin birth of Jesus. The feast day of the Nativity of Mary is on Sept 8th.
This is a day of obligation for Roman Catholics, and one of the dogmas of the Roman Catholic church.
Mary = motherhood, as you thought.

Mare de Deu is our towns patron saint so 8 September is our towns biggest religious fiesta.
On 8 December there are processions celebrating motherhood.
I had thought that Mothers day was on 8 Dec until I saw the cakes in the shop yesterday.
My kids will not believe it when I tell them that I have discovered another Mothers Day.

The kids live in UK so I MUST keep up the old traditions and I live in Spain so MUST adopt their traditions. Oh dear such hardship to have to follow all these traditional celebrations and having to have chocs, flowers etc.
