Can you tell me if the shops are open over the Xmas holidays as we will be flying over from the uk on boxing day

Yes they will be open...no Boxing day in Spain.

1st Jan is a public holiday, and so is 6th Jan, which is on a Sunday this year. In some places this means everything will be closed on Monday 7th. But it depends where you are!

There are more public holidays in Spain than UK but the annual holiday allowance is less, so it works out about the same.
