I currently have a Telefonica landline with broadband. I have to say that I have never received anything but prompt and efficient service from Telefonica - alright I know I've been lucky, please don't post your Telefonica horror stories! However it's expensive - about 70 to 75 euros a month. I keep seeing offers from various alternative providers - has anyone had experience of cheaper (perhaps wireless??) alternatives to telefonica? I live in the Altea area.
Some offers in the press look suspiciously cheap - I think there's probably a catch (e.g the rate goes up after x months.....).

I've been offered cheaper, but by those who ultimately couldn't provide the service
I'm sticking with TF who I have been totally happy with, ADSL is too important to me to be messed up

I've rung a few of these 'cheaper' companies and they really can't help.
They still have to use the Telefonica line ('cus they have the monopoly at the moment) which means line rental is the same, and ADSL speeds are only what TF can provide.
The other basic costs are also not that competitive when you look into it.
The only real way out of this monopoly is to use satelite broadband (or similar). A company here (OSF) provides a service of telephone + ADSL - 3Mb very reasonably.

I gave up on Telefonica's ADSL because the service was unreliable and switched to wireless.
Not cheaper but infinitely better reliability.
Not so good on voice though (gets scrambled in the ether!) so I kept the Telefonica telephone line and just use the Internet connection. Costs about 39 euros a month. Company is Telitec.

I did dump Telefonica and move to Ya.com. Also many horror stories and it does depend where you are but for 3 Mb/s I am getting a much better monthly deal, national and local calls incluido. They still use the Telefonica landline and I cant get the 10 Mb/s you can get in the city but que sera sera.
