I have got the original reciept, BUT its in the name of the pet shop me and EX used to have, (so we could claim the VAT back on it,) but ive emailed the place I bought it from, asking if they will send me a receipt in my name and old UK address, so fingers crossed, luckily I bought it new, from a proper IW dealer, im not sure what would happen if I had bought it 2nd hand, and wether they would accept a receipt from the original buyer???

ps, I also have a little IW trailer, Ive seen similar over here , but with just the car number plate on the back, like in the UK, so do these type not need registering??? similar to this http://www.iwt.co.uk/products/genpurp.htm the one with one wheel (yes either side)

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but its over a certain weight, cant remember 500 or 750 kilos carry weight, that it needs an ITV and re plate

I believe that if the trailer can weigh 750 Kg or above then it needs its own plate etc, but if under then the rules don't yet cover it.

I think you will find that trailers under 750 kgs do not need separate registration here in Spain. But also beware that fitting a towbar to a car here in Spain is a change which must be recorded on the ficha tecnica. I think you will need this to get a number plate made up for the trailer mirroring the car's plate.

Hi there,
I brought my Ifor wiliams (505) trailer to spain from the uk and managed (eventually!) to get it registered here with a red number plate..........i initially contacted IW in Barcelona who supplied a new id plate for the chassis (the small alloy plate near the hitch) and also a certificate of conformity, i then had to go to the itv depot for a engineers report and subsequent test followed by a visit to traffico to register it and obtain the reg number.

The whole procedure took about 6 weeks and cost me 700 euros.

thats interesting, ive now sent all my details to IW, they wanted the receipt (got that ) plus photos of all the chassis numbers etc..... I did that last week, and im going to get a friend who i fluent is Spanish to ring them and chase it up this week,

who did you have to pay IW in Spain, and how much did they want, then how much was it at the ITV station?

Hi,
I paid 250 euros to IW in Barcelona, for this this i received new id plates (sent from IW in the UK) and a certificate of conformity.
The itv + engineers report + traffico and other bits and pieces totalled around another 450 euros.

Yes, the 'final' test was an 'itv'

The original UK chassis plate designation was 'E11'...which i assume was an EU type approval number........the new spanish replacement plate is now designated 'D2842' ........I was told by IW 'spain' that the new chassis plate would effectively make the trailer a 'spanish' trailer which was necessary to the registration process.

ps......I also needed to obtain a document from IW spain confirming that (unlike in spain) trailers in the uk do not need, or have, 'owner registration paperwork'..........this proved invaluable at traffico who were initially demanding the equivalent of a 'log book', or similar, during the registration process.

Also....

The tow hitch on the spanish car must be put on the vehicle docs, so if your buying a new car get the garage to fit it for you, then they will do the doc's.
You can fit it your self but will have to get it approved. :(

Got the garage to fit the towbar on my new car, had to show all the documents when I went to buy some number plates for the trailer
