Yes, a valid Japanese licence can be exchanged for a Spanish licence.

Can definitely confirm that you need to get a Spanish license after 6 months residency in Spain. For the same reasons as being obliged to get the residency certificate after 3 months - so the state can track you (and tax you - lol).
One thing worth noting for those who prefer not to get a Spanish licence. Under no circumstances tell a policeman that you are resident in Spain but travelling with a foreign driving license as it can incur a hefty fine!

A UK licence IS perfectly acceptable in Spain. If you tell a Spanish policeman you are resident in Spain and have a UK licence it doesnt matter!
Just remember a UK licence expires and has to be renewed every 10 years

I've just looked at Englishgestor's profile and their website, the posts they've made on here to date are certainly not a good advertisement for their legal knowledge/services.
