I have just opened an account with Openbank which is part of Santander and has no fees attached. I am waiting after applying online to see how it goes but Sabadell changed my Expansion account to a relacaion account because a payment was missed thanks to TSB being offline. I didn't notice until I was charged 100€ for card transactions, three months of them!

We left Sabadel few months ago because the fee gone up too much in the last 2 years (they charged every single transactions without letting us know, added up nearly 200 pounds a year). We looked around and transferred our account to BankInter as their fee is the most reasonable, I think £75 a year but don't know why my hubby said only £47 (will check it again and confirm the exact figure later). The best thing is they transferred all the debit direct for utility bills for us, we insisted as our Spanish is very minimal (only Suma, we had to inform it ourselve). It is very simple and easy. We are Non residents.

I checked it again, BankInter charged 45 Euros annual fee (without debit cards) and 50 Euros every 2 year, work out around 70 euros a year (still cheaper than Sabadel). We will check Cajama next time we are in Spain as we heard it cost nothing.

Cajamar do charge for non resident accounts you can reduce charges by putting around a 1000 euros into a specific account. You can also reduce charges by using their debit card. Somehow if you use debit card for at least 45 payments per year it reduces charges. All banks as far as I'm aware charge the 2 yearly charge to certify non residency status from memory cajamar charge around 30 euros per account holder.

Just for interest, we were with Caixa and they did not have 'allocated' branches per se, they said that every branch was your local. However, I am not recommending them.

Yes, you are right. BankInter charged us (me and my husband have joint account) 50 euros every 2 year to certify non residency status, so 25 euros per person.
