Re: Catalan clout?
The Mallorquins also remember Franco - all too well.
In fact, there are still many Mallorquins who'd rather meet your foreign face on the street than Spaniard. No rational reason for it other than history, but the current situation with Madrid doesn't give people any warm and fuzzy feelings either. |

The footballers and tennis players have shown the right way forward, being proud of both their regional and national heritage The Mallorquins generally dont have many problems with their Spanishness, ask Rafa Nadal! |

Many Mallorquins certainly do not like to be referred to as Spanish, for historical reasons. You'll see evidence of this everywhere here. Rafa certainly is Mallorquin, but as a celebrity, he's not only burdened with representing Spain on the world stage, but also has the benefit of being exposed to far broader experiences than the average Mallorquin, which tends to temper dogmatic views formed in a social vacuum. And speaking of dogmatism, you might try getting out a bit CMan. The experience may be rather enlightening for you, instead of deluding (for a change). |

The mallorquins are proud about their local identity, like every Spaniard, but there isnt much of an independence movement or "hating" Spaniards Even here in Asturias there is a pro-Asturian movement that wants more autonomy to Asturian and less Castillano, but it is very much in the minority |

What are you talking about? I've visited every province in Spain (except the Canaries) and lived in 3 of them. And unlike you, I can speak Spanish - and even a tiny bit of Catalan.

Hilarious, all this ignoring business, reminds me of school and making sure other girls knew about parties they weren't invited to.
