Thumbs down Be careful

Happy New Year!Worm is About.

The message, currently being spread from 160 email domains, requires users to click on the attached "postcard.exe" file in order to cause damage. The file will install several different malicious code variants including Tibs, Nwar, Banwarum and Glowa on the computer. It then executes mass mailings from the infected computer.
The worm is already being heavily spammed,a security company has found one network that’s sending out five emails per second with the worm.

Thank you for replying

Dont forget these emails can arrive from friends that are not aware that they are being sent from their machines, so be extra careful.

Seems sensible to repeat the warning, NEVER open a file with the extension .exe unless you are absolutely sure it is safe, and you know where it has come from and were expecting it. If in doubt, e mail the sender, if it is someone you know, and ask them if they did send the e mail, if it's from soemone you don't know, then DO NOT OPEN IT.

It is an email that could even come from a friend without their knowledge, titled "Happy New Year" it has an attachment "Postcard.exe", which if you open it it downloads a program onto your PC, that then uses your PC to send out thousands of the same email.

If you have AVG or some other email scanner working then it should pick it up and tell you that it has found a virus in the email and wont let you open the attachment, so you will be ok.
Just delete it as soon as you can.

I just received one but my AVG found it.

I had another one last night, AVG picked it up, so if you have an email scanner it should kill it.

I use Mailwasher to check my emails on the server and weed out spam and all the other rubbish before I even download the legitimate ones into Thunderbird.

Alternatively, buy a Macintosh. Never worry about extensions again. Gain instant charisma and sex appeal and generally enjoy carefree computing!

If you are using the latest version of Outlook Express or Outlook, you will not be able to open a .exe file attachment unless you have deliberately changed the security settings.

What has wearing a raincoat got to do with serious computing?
