Hi
Looking for some help. I have a left hand drive Peugeot 406 that was origionally bought and registered in Germany by an HM Forces guy. (5 years old) It has been registered in the UK and is now on UK plates.
When I move to Spain I would like it transferred to Spainish plates. I have a certificate of conformity for Europe the lights are correct for Spain as is the reversing light (for England we need to put reflectors on the lights and to pass and English MOT we have to have the reversing light hot wired!).
How easy is it to do by myself. Someone has quoted me 800 euros to do it for me which I think is a ridiculous amount of money, but I do not know the procedure or where to start. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jo

hi costa-convert
just changed two cars ourselves so know the system, quite easy if you follow the rules but, use a Gestor for the final bit, ok in sequence I shall number start to finish
1) make sure you have the new V5 or an export certificate, if you have the new V5 then that will do.
2) find a technico to check the car over, this is not an ITV(MOT) but he will measure the car including the steering wheel etc. He will send the paperwork to the Haciendas who will then send a typed up form for you to take to....
3)ITV. you have to have this done regardless of having a certificate of conformity (both our cars are LED one from Germany and the other a Saudi Discovery) this takes an hour and price for diesel was 110 euros petrol was 104
4) we then had a week to wait whilst they did they paperwork for the log book, once collected...
5) go to town hall and get photo copied signed proof of who you are, we used residencia card for this at the great price of one euro. Also whilst there have you new log book and tax the car, this goes on engine size under 1600cc is cheaper, both our car's are over that and cost pro rata 35 euros.
6) At this point we gave all the paperwork to our local Gestoria who completed the difficult bit of the payment of import tax. This is worked out on age of car and engine size, but our technico told us what it would cost, for our BMW it cost not including ITV around 600 euro and the Disco about 500 euro.
At this point I would say do it all yourself but, do use a Gestor for the final part, ours charged 50 euros for the privilege and well worth it. Do check with a Gestor their charges as I have heard they differ greatly.
If you do the car within three months of arrival and get a letter from the Consulate to that effect then you do not pay import tax.
Best of luck

A Gestor is found most places , they do have signs over their doorways, quite easy to find have a wander down you local "high street"
re tax, yes you will have to pay it, I am not so hot on this as quite an awkward way of working it out but ,near enough is 12% of the new price then each year it reduces by a percentage, older the car the less you pay. Do not worry it is not as horrific as it sounds.
By the way the ITV lasts for two years here. Also whilst you are going through the process make sure you have copies of everything in the car for the police as they are being quite hot on foreign plates. If you do use a Gestor, also make sure they photocopy all the documents for you.
Ours was excellent, unfortunately you are not close enough to use her.

Here is a link http://servicios4.jcyl.es/iguia/fuen...iculos2006.pdf
that will tell you the value placed on vehicles: the tax is a percentage of that.

They were all stamped, placed in little folders with name of Gestoria. Our door does definately say Gestoria, but only had a lady working in there.
re tax on 35 year old car, not a lot I should think!!!! also re car tax it also goes on size of the engine , a friend has just changed hers with my help and paid 5 euros 35 cents pro rata. (Smart car)
There is a little black book that the technico had giving a scale of prices per car, per year, and that was how the tax was worked out. So when the Hacienda in Granada asked for more we politley argued the point and they agreed we were right, refreshing, Actually the reason for this was...... both cars were imported to UK and when they had British plates put on, the V5 had that as date of first registeration, not the actual date of manufacture.
This caused some confusion here but we had paperwork to prove the actual date of manufacture and registeration in the other two countries. we aslo had a letter from Land rover confirming the date for the Disco.

My V5 actually has the date of manufacture just checked so should be ok. I would like to think my car would be that cheap but I won't hold out too much hope! Thanks Jo
