Car re-registration
Hi all,
We are looking to buy a used Spanish registered car in the near future.
Can anyone tell me what is the cost to have registered in my name.
Thanks.
Dave.

Re: Car re-registration
If you buy from a dealer the transfer is normally included in the price. If private I was quoted 120 euro for a motorbike so car should be around that .

I am only giving what I was quoted if there is an increase due to price of the vehicle then yes that may increase the cost? Certainly if from a dealer most include the transfer cost. Maybe you can give the op a more definite answer?

The transfer tax is based on the new price of the car, discounted for age. The tax rate varies from region to region. In most places it is 4%, but can be as high as 8%. Valencia is 6%.
Either party can pay it by agreeing between themselves. I would expect a dealer to include it in the price.

Re: Car re-registration
Please be careful buying a used car in Spain - even from a dealer. You inherit any debts or fines accrued by the previous owner and left unpaid so the transfer of the car creates a pathway straight to the new owner whom they then consider to be liable. Nightmare!
