I´ve been with Liberty Seguros for 20 years, and i´ve paid around €320/pa for each of the cars. - there are cheaper ones - helloauto.com is charging around €185/pa plus €1/per day that the car is used - ideal for people that have a car in Spain and visit sporadically i think.

I had a good quote from Sabadell, with the bonus that it would nullify any bank chrges on my account. My previous insures LineaDirecta subsequently dropped their pants on the premium reducing the original renewal quote by 120euros or so.

That’s typical LineaDirecta behaviour.

Unless you challenge their prices they keep increasing them. If you argue they reduce them instantly. I have been with them for 20 years and the premium on my current car is less than I paid 20 years ago and the car was twice as expensive as the original one.

I have claimed 3 times and the way they handle claims is amazingly good.

Many thanks guys, some food for thought. I am paying €330.00 fully comp on a 23 year old 2.4 volvo v70. My wife and I had a meeting this morning at our local branch of Sabadell regarding the charge of €18.00 for uk money transfers. It turned out that my pensions are free from the charge and its all down to a few small money transfers from the uk.
Anyway they are going to charge us €15.00 service charge each quarter unless we take out one of their insurances. Frankly €5.00 per month is not worth worrying about.Car insurance was mentioned as my policy is due for renewal end of may. I dont know whether historically banks insurance premiums are high but perhaps its worth a punt. I have had a quote from Abbeygate who are quite well known and their best premium is €60.00 more than I am paying at present with lloyds underwriters.

Why do you keep quoting Lloyds underwriters ?, are you trying to insure a UK reg car ?

My car insurance is with Ibex which is linked to lloyds underwirters. Lloyds do insure world wide not just the uk.

I have been looking at new / newer cars, so got a quote for fully comp from liberty. €399 +€300 excess... i was suprised to see that Genesis offered the same for €171, with € 300 excess.

You might want to look at getting a 'classic' policy for the car as its that old. You get limited milage but usually 10,000 km
Is it a RHD car? Cause thats a lot on a car thats prob only worth about €1500 max.
I have a policy with Linda Direct for a 2007 Citroen C4 and its about €220 for the year. We only do local journeys so I have limited Km on mine which keeps the price down.

And the underwriter of the policy doesn't matter these days. It just means that the company selling you the insurance will get a full payout no matter what they give you.
Im afraid the days of Lloyds being the be all and end all have long gone. Unless you own a supertanker worth a few billion of course..

I would use the quote given by the bank and go back to your current insurers and tell you will be taking your business elsewhere unless they can come up with a better quote (I did this every year, when we were in the UK) worked every time. And I will be doing it when the Linen Direct policy comes up for renewal in August.
What is there to loose?

Lloyds underwriters insure the world or at least a large percentage of it.

Hi Guys, most interesting. Barriej I didnt realise that there are "classic" policies over here. Yes my car is a right hooker on spanish plates. Can you please clarify the name of your insurers please. Is your policy classed as a "classic" policy as this would suit me fine. I do about 4,000 km a year. thanks

I could be wrong, but is a "classic" policy in spain linked to a "historic" plate ?

my car is 21 years old but i hadnt thought about a classic policy because i use the car too much, i need it for work every day
