Default car/house insurance?

Can anyone please recommend a decent insurance company or broker for both house and car insurance?

Thanks in advance.

Another vote for Ibex (although my lot were www.ibexinsure.com ). I´ve just transferred over to them and saved 200€ on car insurance (discounted home insurance too)

I agree cheapest is not always best. I changed to LD after CAM bank insurance refused to pay up when a builder stole from us. Small print said theft cover only where there had been a forced entry.

Which company do you use? Can you give me a heads up comparison on where their cover is better than LD.

I use Allianz for the buildings insurance (who I am extremely happy with) but for contents I use Groupama. Originally they were Norwich Union but they sold out.

The reason I have stayed with them was because they are happy to insure our house which has no rejas. They will no longer accept that but as it is an existing policy we are still fully covered. Most companies do insist on rejas at least on the ground floor.

I looked at LD when they first offered household insurance as they were about half the price. Surprisingly they did not insist on rejas either but when I checked the small print they only cover the full value of the contents if almost the whole lot gets stolen (unlikely). If not there was a very low limit on the amount they would pay out.

I decided to stay with Groupama as they do not have these conditions.

My house has rejas on the older part but not on the newer extension.
I am insured with Ibex and it is not a problem.
However they do insist on a monitored alarm.

Yes, an alarm is usually an option - we have a monitored alarm from Prosegur.

The problem is that if you are burgled and it's not on - which does happen, you have no cover at all. It can also be a problem if you have pets in the house.

Fitting rejas on our house is just not practical.
